A general, atom-economical method for the synthesis of phosphaalkenes is reported via the net coupling of primary alkyl or aryl phosphines with aryl or alkyl isocyanides at zirconium. An efficient route to 5H-benzo[d]imidazo[5,1-b][1,3]thiazines has been developed using the copper(i)-catalyzed tandem reaction of o-alkynylphenyl isothiocyanates with isocyanides in THF with Cs2CO3 as base. The first amido-distannyne, L(†)SnSnL(†) (L(†) = -N(Ar(†))(SiPr(i)3), Ar(†) = C6H2{C(H)Ph2}2Pr(i)-2,6,4), has been prepared and shown to possess a very long Sn-Sn single bond; the compound activates dihydrogen under ambient conditions to give L(†)Sn(μ-H)2SnL(†), and reacts with Bu(t)NC to give a stable adduct complex, L(†)(Bu(t)NC)SnSn(CNBu(t))L(†).

Reactions of laser-ablated U atoms with (CN)2 produce UNC, U(NC)2, and U(NC)4 as the major products, identified from their Ar matrix infrared spectra and precursors partially and fully substituted with (13)C and (15)N. Nano-copper(0) stabilized on alumina prepared from Cu-Al hydrotalcite has been reported for completely regioselective synthesis of 2,4-disubstituted pyrroles from unactivated terminal aromatic/aliphatic alkynes and isocyanides. The reaction is operationally simple, involves ligand-free inexpensive nano-copper, and affords products in high yields.
