A reversible and pH-independent fluorescent ion optode is introduced with an ionophore and surface confined solvatochromic dye transducer doped onto microporous nylon membranes. The resulting film responds to K+ with excellent selectivity over the range of 10-7 to 10-2 M and a response time of t95 < 60 s above 10-6 M.

The electrochemical grafting process of 4-nitrobenzene and 4-methoxybenzene (anisole) from diazonium salt solutions has been investigated in situ by monitoring the current density, the band bending, and the nonradiative surface recombination during grafting at different potentials and different concentrations of the diazonium salt in the solution. Ex situ infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry has...

Lithium cadmates bearing different ligands were compared with efficient (TMP)(3)CdLi (TMP = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino) for their ability to deprotometalate anisole. The generated arylcadmates were evidenced using I(2). The results show that it is possible to replace only one of the TMP (with a piperidino, a diisopropylamino, a butyl, or a sec-butyl) without important yield drop. In the ligh...

Flowing supercritical CO(2) was used to activate a cross section of microporous coordination polymers (MCPs) directly from DMF, thus avoiding exchange with a volatile solvent. Most MCPs displayed exceptional surface areas directly after treatment although those with coordinatively unsaturated metals benefit from heating. The method presents an advance in efficiency of activation and quality of ...

Hyperkalemia, a condition in which serum potassium ions (K+) exceed 5.0 mmol/L, is a common electrolyte disorder associated with substantial morbidity. Current methods of managing hyperkalemia, including organic polymer resins such as sodium polystyrene sulfonate (SPS), are poorly tolerated and/or not effective. Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (ZS-9) is under clinical development as an orally ad...

Background: Due to multiple roles of albumin in the body, injection of its medicinal product as one of the therapeutic or management strategies under conditions such as severe bleeding, burns, liver failure, and neonatal hemolytic diseases is on the physicians' agenda. Considering that albumin is the most abundant plasma protein, designing an appropriate method to purify it is highly important....

introduction : albumin, one of the most important plasma proteins, has a difficult process of synthesis and production. we compared two different methods for albumin purification: carboxymethyl cellulose (cm cellulose) resin exchange and diethylaminoethyl cellulose (deae cellulose) resin exchange in order to determine which resin could be more beneficial. materials and methods : two ion exchang...
