Nano cavities based on silicon and indium phosphide materials have been comparedin this study, considering field intensity enhancement factor. The results of FDTD based simulations declare that the Si nano-cavity improves confined optical field about 7.7 times higher than the InP based nano-cavity. The introduced dielectric nano-cavities support resonance wavelength at about λ=1.55 μm.

Vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) is attractive light source in a future massively parallel computing system with many processor elements (PEs). We proposed optical interconnection by wavelength domain addressing for realizing switch-less and reconfigurable interconnection [1]. For such a system, 1.3 µm VCSEL has advantages over short wavelength VCSEL such as 0.98 µm VCSEL because ...

A novel Co/InP magnetic semiconductor nanocomposite was fabricated by electrodeposition magnetic Co nanoparticles into n-type porous InP templates in ethanol solution of cobalt chloride. The content or particle size of Co particles embedded in porous InP increased with increasing deposition time. Co particles had uniform distribution over pore sidewall surface of InP template, which was differe...

Zero-valent iron nanoparticles (INP) were synthesized and stabilized using poly acrylic acid (PAA) to yield stabilized INP (S-INP). A two-dimensional physical model was used to study the fate and transport of the INP and S-INP in porous media under saturated, steady-state flow conditions. Transport data for a nonreactive tracer, INP, and S-INP were collected under similar flow conditions. The r...

The III-V compound semiconductors exhibit superb electronic and optoelectronic properties. Traditionally, closely lattice-matched epitaxial substrates have been required for the growth of high-quality single-crystal III-V thin films and patterned microstructures. To remove this materials constraint, here we introduce a growth mode that enables direct writing of single-crystalline III-V's on amo...

Ice-nucleating particles (INPs) active at modest supercooling (e.g. −8 C; INP−8) can transform clouds from liquid to mixed phase, even at very small number concentrations (< 10 m−3). Over the course of 15 months, we found very similar patterns in weekly concentrations of INP−8 in PM10 (median= 1.7 m−3, maximum= 10.1 m−3) and weekly amounts of rainfall (median= 28 mm, maximum= 153 mm) at Birkene...

We investigate the inhibited spontaneous emission of telecom-band InAs quantum disks (Qdisks) in InP nanowires (NWs). We have evaluated how the inhibition is affected by different disk diameter and thickness. We also compared the inhibition in standing InP NWs and those NWs laying on silica (SiO(2)), and silicon (Si) substrates. We found that the inhibition is altered when we put the NW on the ...

Metamaterials are artificially structured materials that can produce innovative optical functionalities such as negative refractive index, invisibility cloaking, and super-resolution imaging. Combining metamaterials with semiconductors enables us to develop novel optoelectronic devices based on the new concept of operation. Here we report the first experimental demonstration of a permeability-c...
