This paper proposes a new term weighting method for summarizing documents retrieved by IR systems. Unlike query-biased summarization methods, our method utilizes not the information of query, but the similarity information among original documents by hierarchical clustering. In order to map the similarity structure of the clusters into the weight of each word, we adopt the information gain rati...

Proper noun pronuncia t ion genera t ion is a part icular ly chal lenging problem in speech recognition since a large percentage of proper nouns often defy typical letter-to-sound conversion rules. In this paper, we present decision tree methods which outperform neural network techniques. Using the decision tree method, we have achieved an overall error rate of 45.5%, which is a 35% reduction o...

We show that all strictly convex n impurity measures lead to splits at boundary points, and furthermore show that certain rational splitting rules, notably the information gain ratio, also have this property. A slightly weaker result is shown to hold for impurity measures that are only convex n, such as Inaccuracy.

In this paper, we report on classification results for emotional user states (4 classes, German database of children interacting with a pet robot). Starting with 5 emotion labels per word, we obtained chunks with different degrees of prototypicality. Six sites computed acoustic and linguistic features independently from each other. A total of 4232 features were pooled together and grouped into ...

In this paper, we propose a method to make a summary from multiple documents with taking account of comprehensibility and readability. As for comprehensibility, we show an integration of MMR into the termweighting method based on IGR. As for readability, we propose a method to generate a summary based on clustering important sentences according to subtopics and making a keyword list as a very b...

Thede online prediction of task success in Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems is a comparatively new field of research. It helps to identify problemantic calls and enables the dialog system to react before the caller gets overly frustrated. This publication investigates, to which extent it is possible to predict task completion and how existing approaches generalize for long dialogs. We c...

The biomarker discovery process usually produces a long list of candidates, which need to be verified. The verification of protein biomarkers from mass spectrometry data can be done through measuring the detection probability from the mass spectrometer (Peptide detection). However, the limited size of the experimental data and lack of a universal quantitative method make the identification of t...
