Introduction Raised intracranial pressure (ICP) can cause secondary brain injury, which is associated with severe disability and mortality [1]. Invasive ICP monitoring has been linked to increased mortality [2]. Sekhon, et al. [3] demonstrated a strong correlation between optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) on CT scan and ICP, with the potential to use this non-invasive method to detect raised ICP.

The causes of death and neurological sequelae in African children with cerebral malaria are obscure. Intracranial pressure (ICP) was monitored and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) calculated in 23 Kenyan children with cerebral malaria. Four children had severe intracranial hypertension (ICP > 40 mm Hg, CPP < 40 mm Hg): two died, one with an ICP of 158 mm Hg and signs of transtentorial herniati...

The introduction and development of Single Particle ICP-MS (SP-ICP-MS) has opened a new area of research which allows the rapid detection and analysis of metal-based particles in a variety of matrices and applications.1-6 The key feature of SP-ICP-MS is that it allows discrete pulses of positively charged ions to be detected and measured in a time-resolved manner using microsecond (μs) data acq...

Introduction Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) typically provides detection limits in the low-ppt to sub-ppt range for all but a few of over 70 elements. Unfortunately, for a handful of elements, conventional ICP-MS cannot provide the best possible detection limits. The detection limits for these elements are limited by plasma or sample matrix-based polyatomic interferences....

Slow waves in intracranial pressure (ICP) and related signals seems of interest to evaluate the dynamic autoregulation, i.e. by comparison of the frequency links between an intracranial signal, e.g. ICP, cerebral blood velocity (CBV), and arterial blood pressure (ABP). To clarify the links, we compared two frequency methods based on coherence function to estimate the influence of ICP, ABP and C...

INTRODUCTION To investigate the impact of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on perinatal outcomes. METHODS In the study, 200 pregnant women were divided into four groups, including 50 cases with ICP and HBV infection, 50 cases with ICP, 50 cases with HBV infection, and 50 healthy pregnancies. The delivery process and perinatal outcomes were ana...

In this paper, we present a very important primitive called Information Checking Protocol (ICP) which plays an important role in constructing statistical Verifiable Secret Sharing (VSS) and Weak Secret Sharing (WSS) protocols. Informally, ICP is a tool for authenticating messages in the presence of computationally unbounded corrupted parties. Here we extend the basic bare-bone definition of ICP...

OBJECT The Brain Trauma Foundation (BTF) has established guidelines for intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study assessed compliance with these guidelines and the effect on outcomes. METHODS This is a prospective, observational study including patients with severe blunt TBI (Glasgow Coma Scale score ≤ 8, head Abbreviated Injury Scale score ≥ 3)...

We evaluated postural effects on intracranial pressure (ICP) and cerebral perfusion pressure [CPP: mean arterial pressure (MAP) - ICP] in neurosurgical patients undergoing 24-h ICP monitoring as part of their diagnostic workup. We identified nine patients (5 women, age 44 ± 20 yr; means ± SD), who were "as normal as possible," i.e., without indication for neurosurgical intervention (e.g., focal...

Intracranial pressure (ICP) is affected in many neurological conditions. Clinical measurement of pressure on the brain currently requires placing a probe in the cerebrospinal fluid compartment, the brain tissue, or other intracranial space. This invasiveness limits the measurement to critically ill patients. Because ICP is also clinically important in conditions ranging from brain tumors and hy...
