A tutorial introduction is provided to the relatively new subject of hybrid systems. The modelling of hybrid systems is assuming ever greater importance for systems where the combination of continuous control and with logical decision making is required. This arises in some of the most critical operating regions where systems are under start-up, shutdown or are undergoing major planned changes....

We consider the interconnections of arbitrary topology of a finite number of ISS hybrid systems and study whether the ISS property is maintained for the overall system. We show that if the small gain condition is satisfied, then the whole network is ISS and show how a non-smooth ISS-Lyapunov function can be explicitly constructed in this case. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Mnesors are defined as elements of a semimodule over the min-plus integers. This two-sorted structure is able to merge graduation properties of vectors and idempotent properties of boolean numbers, which makes it appropriate for hybrid systems. We apply it to the control of an inverted pendulum and design a full logical controller, that is, without the usual algebra of real numbers. "Thus the t...

The area of cognitive or intelligent robotics is moving from the single robot control and behavior problem to that of controlling multiple robots operating together and even collaborating in dynamic and unstructured environments. This paper introduces the topic and provides a general overview of the current state of the field of modular and multi robotics taking both of these subareas as differ...

in this paper, an adaptive rule based controller for an anti-lock regenerative braking system (arbs) of a series hybrid electric bus (sheb) has been proposed. the proposed controller integrates the regenerative braking and wheel anti-lock functions by controlling the electric motor of the hybrid vehicle, without using any conventional mechanical anti-lock braking system. the performance of the ...

The analysis and design of hybrid systems must exploit their hierarchical and compositional nature of in order to tackle complexity. In previous work, we presented a hierarchical abstraction framework for hybrid control systems based on the notions of simulation and bisimulation. In this paper, we build upon our previous work and investigate the compositionality of our abstraction framework. We...

We present a general approach to analyzing stability of hybrid systems, based on input-to-state stability (ISS) and small-gain theorems. We demonstrate that the ISS small-gain analysis framework is very naturally applicable in the context of hybrid systems. Novel Lyapunovbased and LaSalle-based small-gain theorems for hybrid systems are presented. The reader does not need to be familiar with IS...

In this paper we address the problem of designing energy minimizing collision-free maneuvers for multiple agents moving on a plane. We show that the problem is equivalent to that of finding the shortest geodesic in a certain manifold with nonsmooth boundary. This allows us to prove that the optimal maneuvers are C by introducing the concept of u-convex manifolds. Moreover, due to the nature of ...

We consider in this paper switched systems, a class of hybrid systems recently used with success in various domains such as automotive industry and power electonics. We propose a state-dependent control strategy which makes the trajectories of the analyzed system converge to finite cyclic sequences of points. Our method relies on a technique of decomposition of the state space into local region...

Optimal path coordination problems for multivehicle systems are formulated in the framework of hybrid systems and solved using dynamic programming techniques. In these problems, the path cost for one vehicle is a discontinuous function of the distances to other vehicles. This leads to a nonstandard optimal control problem.
