In this paper we prove, in a constructive way, the equivalence between hybrid and piecewise afine systems. By focusing our investigation on the latter class, we show through counterexamples that observability and controllability properties cannot be easily deduced from those of the component linear subsystems. Instead, we propose practical numerical tests based on mixedinteger linear programming.

Clustering ensembles has been recently recognized as an emerging approach to provide more robust solutions to the data clustering problem. Current methods of clustering ensembles typically fall into instance-based, cluster-based, or hybrid approaches; however, most of such methods fail in discriminating among the various clusterings that participate to the ensemble. In this paper, we address th...

In this study, the tensile and compressive behaviors of pure and hybrid composite laminates reinforced by basalt–nylon bi-woven intra-ply fabrics were experimentally investigated. Epoxy resin was used as the matrix material. The purpose of using this hybrid composite is to obtain superior characteristics by using the good strength property of basalt fiber with the excellent toughness of ny...

A hybrid testing method, discussed in this research, combines state-based testing with data flow analysis to test classes at the intra-class level. Employing state-based testing, the method can generate all possible test message sequences. Using data flow analysis, the method can also detect whether data anomalies exist in those generated sequences, and then compute data flow test cases, which ...

We consider the problem of a particle traveling from an initial configuration to a final configuration (given by a point in the plane along with a prescribed velocity vector) in minimum time with non-homogeneous velocity and with constraints on the minimum turning radius of the particle over multiple regions of the state space. Necessary conditions for optimality of these paths are derived to c...

Using a Bass Diffusion model we investigate the effect of cannibalization within a hybrid manufacturing /remanufacturing/refurbishing system. The hybrid system consists of newly manufactured products, remanufactured products, and refurbished products. The impact of the collection, remanufacturing, and refurbishing ratios on economic performance are simulated and analyzed. We numerically calcula...

Over the past decade micro and nanofluidics emerged as vital tools in the ongoing drive towards the development of nano-scale analysis and manufacturing systems. Accurate numerical modelling of the phenomena involved at these scales is essential in order to speed up the industrial design process for nanotechnology. However a parameter often ignored in hybrid simulations is the uncertainty level...

In this paper, we propose a dynamical model of technology adoption for the exploitation of a renewable natural resource. Each technology has a different efficiency and environmental impact. The process of technology adoption over time is modeled through an evolutionary game employed by profit maximizing exploiters. The loss in profits due to lower efficiency levels of environmentallyfriendly te...

Maltese is a morphologically rich language with a hybrid morphological system which features both concatenative and non-concatenative processes. This paper analyses the impact of this hybridity on the performance of machine learning techniques for morphological labelling and clustering. In particular, we analyse a dataset of morphologically related word clusters to evaluate the difference in re...

traditional leveraging statistical methods for analyzing today’s large volumes of spatial data have high computational burdens. to eliminate the deficiency, relatively modern data mining techniques have been recently applied in different spatial analysis tasks with the purpose of autonomous knowledge extraction from high-volume spatial data. fortunately, geospatial data is considered a proper s...
