A left ophthalmoplegia and right hemiplegia were due to thrombosis of an intracavernous aneurysm with occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. Ophthalmoplegia with contralateral hemiplegia is probably a rare syndrome. Thrombosis of an intracavernous aneurysm is probably a rare cause of occlusion of the internal carotid artery.
A woman had anosognosia for hemiplegia as a manifestation of brainstem infarction. She had no mental or neuropsychological disturbances, and had involvement of the brainstem in the frontal/parietal-subcortical circuits to the right cerebral hemisphere. Brainstem lesions that disrupt frontal/parietal-subcortical areas may affect anosognosia for hemiplegia.
A 46-year-old man with psoriasis and morbid obesity developed acute aphasia and right hemiplegia. As a result of his weakness, he had fallen and struck his right eye on a desk. His presenting examination demonstrated right periorbital ecchymosis without accompanying ptosis, expressive aphasia, left gaze deviation with corresponding hemianopsia, and dense right hemiplegia, summating an NIH Strok...
We evaluated the diaphragmatic excursion, volumetric measurement, maximal inspiratory pressure (PI(max)), lung function tests (forced vital capacity-FVC, forced expiratory volume in the first second-FEV1, mean forced expiratory flow between 25 and 75% of the FVC maneuver-FEF(25-75%), peak expiratory flow-PEF and maximal voluntary ventilation-MVV), displacement of the domes diaphragmatics with u...
Background Turning is ubiquitous in activities of daily living. For people with hemiplegia, persistent impairments in strength, balance, and coordination will affect their ability to turn safely. Consequently, turning retraining should be addressed in rehabilitation programs. To measure turning for these individuals, a reliable clinical tool is required. Objective To investigate (i) the intra...
