BACKGROUND Protective lung ventilation requires calculating predicted body weight (BW) from height. Thus, inaccuracy of height data in the electronic health record (EHR) is a risk factor for ventilator-induced lung injury. Charted height data often have uncertain accuracy. Study purposes were (1) to evaluate the difference between patient height charted in the EHR and predicted height (PH) from...

Epidemiological studies have consistently shown a positive association between size at birth (i.e. birth weight or birth length) and height in children, adolescents and adults. To examine whether this association is explained by genetic or nongenetic (intra-uterine) factors, we investigated birth weight, birth length and height in 60 dizygotic and 68 monozygotic adolescent twin pairs still livi...

The depth of lumbar puncture needle insertion was recorded in 107 children. Height provided the best guide to the minimum and maximum depths of insertion. Mean depth of insertion (cm) = 0.03 x height of child (cm).

In this paper, we reinterpret the Colmez conjecture on the Faltings height of CM abelian varieties in terms of Hilbert (and Siegel) modular forms. We construct an elliptic modular form involving the Faltings height of a CM abelian surface and arithmetic intersection numbers, and prove that the Colmez conjecture for CM abelian surfaces is equivalent to the cuspidality of this modular form.

PEFR is a simple and reliable way of following patients with bronchial asthma and other obstructive airway diseases. Normal data is available for Caucasian and North Indian children but not for ethnic South Indian children. We, therefore, measured Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) in 345 healthy South Indian children aged 4-15 years, using the Wright mini peak flow meter. A nomogram was construc...

The use of a GnRH agonist (GnRHa) in central precocious puberty (CPP) is known to slow puberty progression, subsequently prevent early menarche, and attenuate the height loss caused by advanced skeletal maturation. But enhancing the final height has been so controversial that an additional approach has been used. We investigated the menarcheal age and near final height (NFH) in girls with CPP t...

OBJECTIVE To study the effectiveness of luteinising hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) analogues in improving final height in girls affected by early puberty. PATIENTS Forty six consecutive girls with onset of puberty aged 7.5-8.5 years randomly divided into two groups: one treated with 3.75 mg triptorelin intramuscularly every four weeks (group 1); and the other with no treatment (group 2). ...

We reviewed the growth characteristics of American boys and girls from published studies, including age at takeoff, age at peak height velocity, peak height velocity, duration of puberty, and the magnitude of the pubertal contribution to adult height. Age at takeoff is highly variable and sex-dependent. The mean takeoff age in children growing at an average rate is approximately 11 years in boy...

Monitoring vegetation recovery typically requires ground measurements of vegetation height, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have shown great promise for characterizing vegetation in a cost-efficient way, but the literature on specific methods and cost savings is scant. In this study, we surveyed vegetation height on seismic lines in Alberta...
