The more sophisticated fuzzy clustering algorithms, like the Gustafson–Kessel algorithm [11] and the fuzzy maximum likelihood estimation (FMLE) algorithm [10] offer the possibility of inducing clusters of ellipsoidal shape and different sizes. The same holds for the EM algorithm for a mixture of Gaussians. However, these additional degrees of freedom often reduce the robustness of the algorithm...

Forest restoration is affected by two compounding problems. First, the goals of restoration often are unclear and involve the simultaneous consideration of a number of diverse criteria including aesthetics, biodiversity, recreation, and economic cost. Second, restoration management is a long-term process such that effects are difficult to measure at the time of implementation. Moreover, restora...

Computer simulation of polymer chain is carried out by Monte Carlo method in this paper. The properties of polymer chain are simulated by self avoiding walk and bond fluctuation model. The parallel computing model is established to solve the physical problems of the polymer chains. We analyze the algorithms for polymer chains to parallel computing at high performance computing center. Gustafson...

We introduce an objective function-based fuzzy clustering technique that incorporates linear combinations of attributes in the distance function. The main application eld of our method is image processing where a comparison pixel by pixel is usually not adequate, but the environmnet of a pixel or groups of pixels characterize important properties of an image or parts of it. In addition, our app...

Typicality degrees were defined in supervised learning as a tool to build characteristic representatives for data categories. In this paper, an extension of these typicality degrees to unsupervised learning is proposed to perform clustering. The proposed algorithm constitutes a GustafsonKessel variant and makes it possible to identify ellipsoidal clusters with robustness as regards outliers.

This paper examines research on a family of computer-based tools, CASCADE (Computer ASsisted Curriculum Analysis, Design and Evaluation), designed to assist in the complex task of curriculum development. It begins with discussion of curriculum developers and their activities, followed by examination of how the computer can offer support for their tasks. The main elements of four related systems...
