BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Microalbuminuria increases cardiovascular risk and is considered a metabolic disorder. Low glomerular filtration rate is also associated with increased cardiovascular risk, but the relation of low glomerular filtration rate to metabolic disorders is not well understood. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Designed as a cross-sectional, epidemiologic study, ...

To determine the validity of endogenous creatinine clearance as a measure of glomerular filtration rate in patients with renal disease 308 simultaneous determinations of inulin clearance and endogenous creatinine clearance were reviewed and analysed. The ratio of creatinine clearance/inulin clearance increased progressively with the decline in inulin clearance, while the finding of a normal end...

The relation between surface area and body weight changes dramatically in infancy. In 31 healthy infants of 27 to 40 weeks' gestation, variations in glomerular filtration rate were reduced more than twofold by choosing glomerular filtration rate/kg body weight rather than glomerular filtration rate/m2. The former provides the most useful and practical index of renal function in the neonate.

The retrospective study was carried out to examine performance of Pottels height- independent equation compared to Schwartzs height-dependent equation to estimate glomerular filtration rate in 115 children in Indian setting. The Pottels equation performed well compared to updated Schwartz equation (R2=0.94, mean bias 0.25, 95% LOA=20.4, -19.9). The precision was better at lower range of estimat...

It has previously been shown that inulin clearance, diodrast clearance, and diodrast Tm are significantly lower in males between the ages of 60 and 80 years than in males 20-40 years of age (1, 2). The clearance and Tm values commonly used as norms are based on averages calculated from observations made on subjects between the ages of 17 and 68 years (3-5). The present study was undertaken to e...

Shannon and Smith (1) found that in normal man, the rate of excretion of inulin was directly proportional to its concentration in plasma when the latter varied from 50 to 400 mg. per cent. Later Miller, Alving, and Rubin (2). extended these observations to plasma concentrations of inulin between 3 and 96 mg. per cent and reached similar conclusions. Both groups considered that this constituted ...
