BACKGROUND Pathological classification of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is problematic as it relies on subjective criteria. We developed an imaging method that uses spectroscopy to assess the fluorescent intensity of cervical biopsies derived directly from hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained tissues. METHODS Archived H&E slides were identified containing normal cervical tissue, CIN...

A new fluorescent chemosensor based on calix[4]arene bearing four iminoquinoline subunits on the upper rim was conveniently synthesized, which showed a remarkable enhanced fluorescent intensity in the presence of Cu(2+) ion and a high selectivity toward Cu(2+) ion over a wide range of tested metal ions in acetonitrile.

A benzobisoxazole-based cruciform fluorophore forms fluorescent complexes with simple boronic acids. Through the changes of their fluorescence emission colours, these complexes can sense and qualitatively distinguish among structurally similar organic nitrogen compounds (amines and ureas) and small organic and inorganic anions. Preliminary results suggest that the intensity of this hybrid senso...

We examined microenvironment-sensitive fluorescent 2'-deoxyuridines labeled with fluorene derivatives that exhibited solvent-dependent photophysical properties. The high sensitivity of the fluorescence shift and the nucleoside intensity dependence on solvent polarity provided information useful for estimating the polarity of the environment surrounding the fluorescent nucleoside.

The first fluorescent labeling technology, which can induce not only an increase in the fluorescence intensity but also a shift in the fluorescence spectrum, has been developed for "ratiometric" measurements for a protein by utilizing a newly designed "field-sensitive" fluorescent probe and its corresponding unique amino acid tag.

This paper describes the synthesis of mixed proteinaceous microspheres (MPMs) by the sonochemical method. The current fundamental research follows the research of Suslick and co-workers who have developed a method by which high-intensity ultrasound is used to make aqueous suspensions of proteinaceous microcapsules filled with water-insoluble liquids.1 By using high-intensity ultrasound, we have...

INTRODUCTIONThis protocol describes a method for establishing a green fluorescent protein (GFP) calibration curve using dilutions of recombinant GFP and blue fluorescent beads. The total fluorescence intensity (TFI) per mRNA molecule is first calculated by imaging serial dilutions of purified enhanced GFP (eGFP) to determine the TFI within a specific volume. A calibration curve of fluorescence ...

The simplest non-dissipative 2-level atom system, a qubit, excited by train of resonant n-Gaussian laser pulses is investigated. This concerns examination the averaged atomic variables, intensity-intensity correlation function, and transient fluorescent radiation. Analytical formulas for above expressions are obtained. Computational results show that spectra with initial ground coherent states ...

Oils containing both fluorescent semiconductor and magnetic oxide nanoparticles are used to produce oil in water emulsions. This technique produces oil droplets with homogeneous fluorescence and high magnetic nanoparticle concentrations. The optical properties of the oil droplets are studied as a function of the droplet sizes for various concentrations of fluorescent and magnetic nanoparticles....

The retrograde neuroanatomical tracing method is a key technique to study the complex interconnections of the nervous system. Traditional tracers have several drawbacks, including time-consuming immunohistochemical or immunofluorescent staining procedures, rapid fluorescence quenching and low fluorescence intensity. Carbon dots (CDs) have been widely used as a fluorescent bio-probe due to their...
