Physical and chemical changes in sapote mamey (Pouteria sapota (Jacq.) H.E. Moore and Stearn) fruit during ripening and storage at various temperatures were evaluated. Ripening was associated with flesh softening, an increase in soluble solids content (SSC), and a change in flesh color from yellow or pale pink to a dark pink or red. No changes in fruit skin color or in flesh acidity were observ...

INTRODUCTION To investigate whether the membrane-associated transporter protein SLC45A2 is differentially expressed in the skin of sheep with different coat colors and to determine its correlation with coat color establishment in sheep. MATERIAL AND METHODS The expression of SLC45A2 in sheep skin samples with different coat colors was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by PCR amplifica...

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that is becoming a serious global health problem. Diabetes has been considered to be one of the major risks of cataract and retinopathy. Synthetic and natural product inhibitors of carbohydrate degrading enzymes are able to reduce type 2 diabetes and its complications. For a long time, potatoes have been portrayed as unhealthy for diabetic patients by some...

mechanical damagesin theprocessof harvestingandpost-harvest are the most important reason in cucurbits losses. it causes the tissue destructionand consequentfruits decay. because of difference in the mechanical strength of flesh and skin of cantaloupe, internal bruising are more usual damages with no visibility. this type of injuriesis hard to predict byanalytical methods. in this study, the mec...

This work describes an implementation for skin detection which relies on the H channel to characterize the skin colors range. The openCv library is used for image processing. The program initially converts RGB images to HSV one. The H channel is used to characterize the colors range for skin detection. To illustrate the approach we compare this with others.

The lipophilic character of quercetin suggests that it can cross enterocyte membranes via simple diffusion. Therefore, it should be more bioavailable than its glucosides, which require preliminary hydrolysis or active transport for absorption. However, the published human studies show that quercetin is less bioavailable than its glucosides. Assuming that low bioavailability of quercetin aglycon...

The content of 12 elements in Cambodian dried striped snakehead fish was determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The present study compares the level of the trace toxic metals and nutritional trace elements in the fish processed using solar drying system (SDS) and open sun drying (OSD). The skin of SDS fish has lower level of As, Pb, and Cd compared to the OSD sample. As ...

Preferred skin color reproduction is an important factor for improving the image quality of display devices and systems. Therefore, this article presents a race-selective preferred skin color reproduction method for the case of multiple races in a single image. First, the proposed method detects skin regions using a focus map and skin candidate map. Next, the race of each detected skin region i...

A new skin segmentation technique for color images is proposed. The proposed technique uses a human skin color model that is based on the Bayesian decision theory and developed using a large training set of skin colors and nonskin colors. The proposed technique is novel and unique in that texture characteristics of the human skin are used to select appropriate skin color thresholds for skin seg...

UNLABELLED Potatoes accumulate toxic steroidal compounds that could be harmful for humans if consumed in high quantities and must be controlled. In this study, we were interested in assessing the levels and variation of glycoalkaloid content in 60 varieties of potato planted in 2 trial sites over 2 y. Total glycoalkaloid levels ranged from 4 to 957 mg/kg of dry weight in the flesh and from 150 ...
