The scale-specific information content of the infinite-range, ferromagnetic Ising model is examined by means of information-theoretic measures of high-order correlations in finite-sized systems. The order-disorder transition region can be identified through the appearance of collective order in the ferromagnetic phase. In addition, it is found that near the transition, the ferromagnetic phase i...

Entanglement of the spin-orbit and magnetic order in multiferroic materials bears a strong potential for engineering novel electronic and spintronic devices. Here, we explore the electron and spin structure of ferroelectric α-GeTe thin films doped with ferromagnetic Mn impurities to achieve its multiferroic functionality. We use bulk-sensitive soft-X-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscop...

We address the possible occurrence of ultracold atom ferromagnetism by evaluating the free energy of a spin polarized Fermi gas to second order in its interaction parameter. We find that Hartree-Fock theory underestimates the tendency toward ferromagnetism, predict that the ferromagnetic transition is first order at low temperatures, and point out that the spin coherence time of gases prepared ...

We report a study of the ferromagnetism of ZrZn2, the most promising material to exhibit ferromagnetic quantum criticality, at low temperatures T as function of pressure p. We find that the ordered ferromagnetic moment disappears discontinuously at pc=16.5 kbar. Thus a tricritical point separates a line of first order ferromagnetic transitions from second order (continuous) transitions at highe...

We apply the homotopy group theory in classifying the topological defects in atomic spin-1 and spin-2 Bose-Einstein condensates. The nature of the defects depends crucially on the spin-spin interaction between the atoms. We find the topologically stable defects both for spin-1 ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic states, and for spin-2 ferromagnetic and cyclic states. With this rigorous approac...

By means of extensive computer simulations we analyse in detail the twodimensional ±J Ising spin glass with ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbour interactions. We found a crossover from ferromagnetic to ‘spin glass’-like order both from numerical simulations and analytical arguments. We also present proof of a second crossover from the ‘spin glass’ behaviour to a paramagnetic phase for the large...

We present anisotropic thermal expansion measurements on single crystalline ErNi2B2C. All three, superconducting, antiferromagnetic and weak ferromagnetic phase transitions are unambiguously distinguished in the data. Anisotropic uniaxial pressure dependencies of the transitions are estimated based on the Ehrenfest relation, leading to a conclusion, in particular, that weak ferromagnetic state ...

We discuss the possibility of spin glass order in the vicinity of the unexpected metallic state of the two-dimensional electron gas in zero applied magnetic field. An average ferromagnetic moment may also be present, and the spin glass order then resides in the plane orthogonal to the ferromagnetic moment. We argue that a quantum transition involving the destruction of the spin glass order in a...

Using an exact mapping transformation method, magnetic properties of a spin-1/2 and spin-1 doubly decorated Ising-Heisenberg model are investigated in detail. By assuming that both interaction parameters are ferromagnetic, we found in addition to an usual ferromagnetic phase another two phases with a nontrivial long-range order.

By means of extensive computer simulations we analyze in detail the two dimensional ±J Ising spin glass with ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor interactions. We found a crossover from ferromagnetic to “spin glass” like order both from numerical simulations and analytical arguments. We also present evidences of a second crossover from the “spin glass” behavior to a paramagnetic phase for the la...
