Let us consider a connected graph G with diameter D. For a given integer k between 0 and D, we say that G is k-walk-regular if the number of walks of length between vertices u, v only depends on the distance between u and v, provided that such a distance does not exceed k. Thus, in particular, a 0-walk-regular graph is the same as a walk-regular graph, where the number of cycles of length roote...
This paper proposes an alternative approach to the standard notion of rational (or regular) expression for tree languages. The main difference is that in the new notion we have only one concatenation operation and only one star-operation, instead of many different ones. This is achieved by considering forests instead of trees over a ranked alphabet, or, algebraicly speaking, by considering cart...
In the theory of hyperrings, fundamental relations make a connection between hyperrings and ordinary rings. Commutative fundamental rings and the fundamental relation α which is the smallest strongly regular relation in hyperringswere introduced by Davvaz and Vougiouklis (2007). Recently, another strongly regular relation named θ on hyperrings has been studied by Ameri and Norouzi (2013). Ameri...
A reversible automaton is a finite (possibly incomplete) automaton in which each letter induces a partial one-to-one map from the set of states into itself. We give four non-trivial characterizations of the languages accepted by a reversible automaton equipped with a set of initial and final states and we show that one can effectively decide whether a given rational (or regular) language can be...
Enumerative combinatorics is about counting. The typical question is to find the number of objects with a given set of properties. However, enumerative combinatorics is not just about counting. In “real life”, when we talk about counting, we imagine lining up a set of objects and counting them off: 1, 2, 3, . . .. However, families of combinatorial objects do not come to us in a natural linear ...
In algebraic terms, the insertion of $n$-powers in words may be modelled at the language level by considering the pseudovariety of ordered monoids defined by the inequality $1\le x^n$. We compare this pseudovariety with several other natural pseudovarieties of ordered monoids and of monoids associated with the Burnside pseudovariety of groups defined by the identity $x^n=1$. In particular, we a...
We consider a relation between local and global characteristics of a differential algebraic variety. We prove that dimension of tangent space for every regular point of an irreducible differential algebraic variety coincides with dimension of the variety. Additionally, we classify tangent spaces at regular points in the case of one derivation.
We show that ω-categorical rings with NIP are nilpotent-by-finite. We prove that an ω-categorical group with NIP and fsg is nilpotent-by-finite. We also notice that an ω-categorical group with at least one strongly regular type is abelian. Moreover, we get that each ω-categorical, characteristically simple p-group with NIP has an infinite, definable abelian subgroup. Assuming additionally the e...
