The authors describe a chordoma arising within the soft tissues of the spinal canal (rather than from a vertebral body) in a 6-year-old boy. The lesion was entirely extradural as shown by CT and MR; this was confirmed at surgery.
Ewing's sarcoma usually arises from skeletal bone, but rarely may have an extraskeletal origin. However, Ewing's sarcoma that originates around the spinal column, especially, the intradural extramedullary type is extremely rare. We report a rare case of primary intraspinal extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma.
Cavernous hemangiomas were first reported in 1929 by Globus and Doshay, and are defined as benign vascular structures developed between the neural tissues occurring in the central nervous system, consisting of a dilated vascular bed. Cavernous hemangiomas comprise nearly 5-12% of all spinal vascular malformations; however, existence in the epidural space without bone involvement is rare. Only 4...
Most vertebral haemangiomas are asymptomatic. A case of spinal reconstruction for symptomatic extraosseous thoracic haemangioma using a titanium cage is reported. Radiographs of the T11 vertebra demonstrated characteristic vertical striations. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography showed spinal cord compression by extraosseous tumour extension. Several tumour feeding vessels were s...
Hyperostosis is the most common skull change associated with meningioma. Five hyperostosis cases of meningioma en plaque infiltrating the skull processed without previous decalcification of the bone tissue were investigated histologically and immunohistochemically with antibodies against somatostatin receptor 2A (SSR2A). Undecalcified bone biopsies embedded in methylmethacrylate and paraffin-em...
We report a case of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive ileal extraosseous plasmacytoma containing plasmablastic lymphoma components with CD20-positive lymph node involvement. A 34-year-old healthy Japanese male developed intussusception due to an ileal plasmacytoma. The lesion was positive for EBV-encoded small nuclear RNA in in situ hybridization, with the surrounding lymph nodes showing the ex...
Ewing’s sarcoma (ES) is the second most common malignant bone tumor in children and young adults. Most cases are reported in the bone, and extraosseous Ewing’s sarcoma (ESS) is an extremely rare disease. We present a case of 36 year old female with extraosseous Ewing’s sarcoma developing at the soft tissue in the leg. Their diagnosis was radiological and essentially histological. The Treatment ...
Extraosseous Ewing’s sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor is a rare malignant tumor with poor outcome. It is mostly reported in the second decade of life with equal in males and females. It is an aggressive tumor with unavoidable multiple recurrences and relatively poor prognosis. These tumors can be easily misdiagnosed for different tumors due to lack of established diagnostic pathological ...
Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor occurring most frequently in the posterior part of the lower jaw. Extraosseous CEOT is one of the rarest forms of this tumor, and few such cases involving the maxillary gingiva have been reported in the literature. Here we present a case that showed progressive enlargement in the left maxillary gingival area...
