Moderately compressed exfoliated graphite (CEG) leads to highly porous graphite “foams” or matrices which have numerous actual and potential applications. The graphite/salt composite materials considered here for high temperature energy storage applications, as due to its superior heat conduction and thermal storage characteristics, are manufactured by uniaxial compression of a mixture of salt ...

Graphite is exfoliated in water to give dispersions of mono- and few-layer graphene stabilized by surfactant. These dispersions can be used to form thin, disordered films of randomly stacked, oxide-free, few-layer graphenes. These films are transparent with a direct current conductivity of up to 1.5 x 10(4) S m(-1). The conductivity is stable under flexing for at least 2000 cycles. The electric...

We report an ultrasound exfoliation of graphite in a weakly basic solution to produce multi-layer graphene dispersion. A unique feature of this process is that no surfactant was added to stabilize the exfoliated graphene in water. The concentration of the graphene dispersion prepared by this approach can be up to 0.02 mg mL(-1) and it was stable at room temperature for several months.

This paper reports the results of an x ray-diffuse scattering study of the melting transition of monolayer xenon on the surface of single crystals of exfoliated graphite. It is found that the two-dimensional xenon solid melts into an orientationally ordered liquid (or hexatic) phase. The temperature dependence of the orientational correlations suggests that the hexatic phase exists as a consequ...

Abstract Graphite intercalated compounds (GICs) with different stage numbers are prepared chemically from highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), natural flaked (FG) and nitric acid. Exfoliated samples (EG-T) synthesized GICs via water treatment followed by thermal shock. The aim of this work is to investigate the dependence inner EG-T pore structure on extent oxidation type processing scann...

We firstly introduce a facile method for the site-specific direct physical exfoliation of few-layer graphene sheets from cheap and easily enlargeable graphite grown on a Ni foil using an optimized polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp. By decreasing the PDMS cross-linking time, the PDMS elasticity is reduced to ∼52 kPa, similar to that of a typical gel. As a result of this process, the PDMS becomes...

Graphite nanoplatelets have recently attracted considerable attention as a viable and inexpensive filler substitute for carbon nanotubes in nanocomposites, given the predicted excellent in-plane mechanical, structural, thermal, and electrical properties of graphite. As with carbon nanotubes, full utilization of graphite nanoplatelets in polymer nanocomposite applications will inevitably depend ...

We demonstrate the fabrication of a graphene/ZnO nanorod (NR) hybrid structure by mechanical exfoliation of ZnO NRs grown on a graphite substrate. We confirmed the existence of graphene sheets on the hybrid structure by analyzing the Raman spectra and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. The Raman spectra of the exfoliated graphene/ZnO NR hybrid structure show G and 2D band peaks that are shi...
