We report high statistics measurements of inclusive charged hadron production in Au+Au and p+p collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV. A large, approximately constant hadron suppression is observed in central Au+Au collisions for 5<p(T)<12 GeV/c. The collision energy dependence of the yields and the centrality and p(T) dependence of the suppression provide stringent constraints on theoretical models...
We study ionization of molecules by an intense laser field over a broad wavelength regime, ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 μm experimentally and from 0.6 to 10 μm theoretically. A reaction microscope is combined with an optical parametric amplifier to achieve ionization yields in the near-infrared wavelength regime. Calculations are done using the strong-field S-matrix theory and agreement is found bet...
We scan the collision energy of two clouds of cesium atoms between 12 and 50 μK in an atomic fountain clock. By directly detecting the difference of s-wave scattering phase shifts, we observe a rapid variation of a scattering phase shift through a series of Feshbach resonances. At the energies we use, resonances that overlap at threshold become resolved. Our statistical phase uncertainty of 8 ...
Binding energies of H, He, and O are calculated, using low-momentum nucleonnucleon interactions (Vlow−k) for a wide range of the cutoff momentum Λ. In addition, single-particle energies in nuclei around O are computed. The dependence of the binding energies and the single-particle energies in these nuclei on the cutoff momentum Λ of the Vlow−k is examined. Furthermore, the availability of the V...
We consider the three-dimensional Ising model in a L(⊥)×L(∥)×L(∥) cuboid geometry with a finite aspect ratio ρ=L(⊥)/L(∥) and periodic boundary conditions along all directions. For this model the finite-size scaling functions of the excess free energy and thermodynamic Casimir force are evaluated numerically by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The Monte Carlo results compare well with recent fi...
Describing harmonic generation (HG) in terms of a system's complex quasienergy, the harmonic power P_{DeltaE}(lambda) (over a fixed interval, DeltaE, of harmonic energies) is shown to reproduce the wavelength scaling predicted recently by two groups of authors based on solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation: P_{DeltaE}(lambda) approximately lambda;{-x}, where x approximately 5-6. ...
The cycloreversion quantum yields of compounds 1b and 2b increased upon irradiation with light at shorter wavelengths. The irradiation wavelength dependence is ascribed to the energy barrier on the 2A potential energy surface in the excited electronic state.
The temperature dependence of sensitized Er(3+) emission via localized states and silicon nanoclusters has been studied to get an insight into the excitation and de-excitation processes in silicon-rich oxynitride films. The thermal quenching of Er(3+) luminescence is elucidated by terms of decay time and effective excitation cross section. The temperature quenching of Er(3+) decay time demonstr...
We compare the recent COSY data on the total pp→pΛK and pp→pΣK cross sections with the predictions from two boson exchange models that either are based solely on π and K exchange or include π, η and ρ exchange as well as the virtual excitation of intermediate baryon resonances. Both models are found to reproduce the data after the inclusion of final state hyperon-nucleon interactions. Thus, wit...
The unprecedented dependence of final charge separation efficiency as a function of donor-acceptor interaction in covalently-linked molecules with a rectilinear rigid oligo-p-xylene bridge has been observed. Optimization of the donor-acceptor electronic coupling remarkably inhibits the undesirable rapid decay of the singlet charge-separated state to the ground state, yielding the final long-liv...
