Intraductal papillary mucinous tumors (IPMTs) are benign and malignant lesions that arise from the epithelial lining of main pancreatic duct and/or branch pancreatic ducts, with excessive mucin production (especially hyperplastic/adenomatous variety). Based on the degree of cytoarchitectural atypia on microscopic examination, IPMTs are classified as benign, borderline, carcinoma in situ and inv...
Fasciola hepatica (F. hepatica) as a foodborne trematode can occasionally cause hepatobiliary diseases. We report a 67-year-old woman who was referred to our center because of the diagnosis of cholangitis. She was a resident of mountainous area with the history of unsafe water and contaminated vegetables. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was performed as a diagnostic and th...
Gastroduodenoscopy and retrograde cholangiopancreatography has been performed on 25 occasions in 20 children aged between 7 and 16. Radiographs of the clinically relevant duct or ducts were achieved in 96% of attempts, with no complications. The diagnostic information proved useful clinically; in particular it provided a precise map if biliary or pancreatic surgery was being contemplated. Sever...
We have identified two cases in which anomalous papilla of Vater was found emptying into the duodenal bulb. In both instances, bile outflow from the papilla was confirmed endoscopically and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP) was performed.
Acute pancreatitis remains the most common complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). It is reported to occur in 2-10% of unselected patient samples and up to 40% of high-risk patients. The purpose of this article is to review the evidence behind the known risk factors for post-ERCP pancreatitis, as well as the technical and medical approaches developed to prevent it...
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has a vital role in the diagnosis and management of various biliary and pancreatic diseases but is also associated with adverse events. Commonly seen complications are pancreatitis, bleeding, cholangitis, cholecystitis, postspinchterotomy strictures and perforation. Migration of stents, which is more with plastic stents, is a well-known comp...
The present study describes a perfected device for retrograde urethrography (RUG). The device allows RUG to be performed using a balloonless catheter and with assessment of the various problems of the urethra. The procedure is simple and well tolerated by patients and represents an interesting alternative to the conventional RUG technique.
