The effect of the rate of increase of electrical current during stimulation of human teeth was examined on clinically sound upper anterior teeth. The teeth were stimulated with a current of 10 msec duration at a frequency of 50 Hz. Eight different rates of current increase were used, viz.: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 mu a/sec. The results showed that there was a linear relationship between the s...
Congress has charged the Census Bureau with the responsibility to develop postcensal estimates of basic income and poverty statistics by state, county, and subcounty areas. The March Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS), based on a sample size of about 65,000 households, provides national estimates for these characteristics annually, but the sample size is insufficient to provide r...
A model for piezoelectric vibration energy harvesting with a piezoelectric cantilever beam is presented. The model incorporates expressions for variable geometry, tip mass, and material constants, and allows the parameterized determination of the voltage and power produced over a purely resistive load. The model is of a lumped-element form, with the base excitation acceleration and voltage repr...
Exposure of thirty-three patients to one hour of electrical sleep current resulted in a decrease in the values of blood viscosity, haematocrit, haemoglobin and total plasma protein concentrations. Similar decreases in all these parameters were also observed in a control group of ten patients on whom the electrical current was not turned on. The decreased values in both groups seems, therefore, ...
Using the unique features of the electronic band structure of GaN(x)As(1-x) alloys, we have designed, fabricated and tested a multiband photovoltaic device. The device demonstrates an optical activity of three energy bands that absorb, and convert into electrical current, the crucial part of the solar spectrum. The performance of the device and measurements of electroluminescence, quantum effic...
We employ a semi-classical Langevin approach to study current-induced atomic dynamics in a partially dehydrogenated armchair graphene nanoribbon. All parameters are obtained from density functional theory. The dehydrogenated carbon dimers behave as effective impurities, whose motion decouples from the rest of carbon atoms. The electrical current can couple the dimer motion in a coherent fashion...
We investigated how a 10–50 μm layer from soft ferromagnetic material, incorporated in the architecture of a composite superconducting tape, could influence the capability of the tape to transport electrical current. Numerical procedure was developed to calculate the local distribution of magnetic field and current in the condition when all the superconductor is carrying its critical current de...
Article history: Received 11 December 2007 Accepted 27 March 2008 The global electrical circuit, which maintains a potential of about 280 kV between the earth and the ionosphere, is thought to be driven mainly by thunderstorms and lightning. However, very few in situ measurements of electrical current above thunderstorms have been successfully obtained. In this paper, we present dc to very low ...
Antiferromagnet (AFM) spintronics with reduced electrical current is greatly expected to process information with high integration and low power consumption. In Pt/FeMn and Ta/FeMn hybrids, we observe significant resistance variation (up to 7% of the total resistance) manipulated by 10(5) A/cm(2) dc current. We have excluded the contribution of isotropic structural effects, and confirmed the cr...
We developed an endovascular coil that is instantly detached by high-frequency electrical current. By applying the electrical current, a polyvinyl alcohol junction between the coil and the delivery wire is disrupted by heat within a second. This detachment system was shown to be reliable in the treatment of experimental aneurysms.
