Niemann-Pick group of diseases are rare lysosomal storage disorders. The clinical phenotype is variable. We report a child who first time presented with tremors of tongue and tremors of one side of the body. On examination child had hemiparesis and hepatosplenomegaly. Bone marrow examination shows storage cells suggestive of Niemann-Pick cells and enzyme assay confirmed the diagnosis.

Tremor is described by Stein and Lee as an "involuntary movement characterized by a rhythmic oscillation about a fixed point or trajectory during activities controlled by the central nervous system." Among such oscillations are those demonstrated by healthy individuals and referred to as physiological tremors. These tremors are associated with posture or voluntary movement and are enhanced duri...

Studies were made on the relationships between the rate of glucose metabolism, the transport of glucose between plasma and brain, cerebral blood flow, and blood content. Conscious control rats were compared with rats with intense tremors induced with cismethrin. The influence of plasma glucose concentration was studied by fasting some animals overnight prior to the induction of tremors. Mean pl...

Orthostatic tremor (OT) is a condition described as high-frequency tremors predominantly in the legs and trunk, which are present not only in the standing position but also during isometric contraction of the limb muscles. This report is one of the largest OT series describing clinical and neurophysiologic findings in 26 subjects with OT. The main findings included 13.0 to 18.6 Hz leg tremors w...

Tremors are common in mammals emerging from anesthesia. To determine whether appropriate thermal manipulations immediately before emergence from anesthesia are sufficient to eliminate these tremors, electroencephalographic (EEG) and electromyographic (EMG) activities, hypothalamic temperature (Thy), and O2 consumption were monitored in 12 rats recovering from halothane anesthesia under three th...

The direct injection of semicarbazide (SC), an antivitamin B6 (anti-B6), into the lateral ventricle of the mouse brain induced convulsion and tremors at a smaller dose after a shorter latent period than that in systemic administration. The symptoms were prevented by pyridoxine, aminooxyacetic acid or acetone, while they enhanced by pyridoxal, pyridoxal phosphate, or some other anti-B6. In mice ...

BACKGROUND Workers chronically exposed to manganese in welding fumes may develop an extra-pyramidal syndrome with postural and action tremors. OBJECTIVES To determine the utility of tremor analysis in distinguishing tremors among workers exposed to welding fumes, patients with Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease (IPD) and Essential Tremor (ET). METHODS Retrospective study of recorded tremor in s...
