We introduce two numerical conjugacy invariants for dynamical systems – the complexity and weak complexity indices – which are well-suited for the study of “completely integrable” Hamiltonian systems. These invariants can be seen as “slow entropies”, they describe the polynomial growth rate of the number of balls (for the usual “dynamical” distances) of coverings of the ambient space. We then d...

introduction: in this paper, a novel complexity measure is proposed to detect dynamical changes in nonlinear systems using ordinal pattern analysis of time series data taken from the system. epilepsy is considered as a dynamical change in nonlinear and complex brain system. the ability of the proposed measure for characterizing the normal and epileptic eeg signals when the signal is short or is...

We give an SU(2) covariant representation of the constraints of Euclidean general relativity in the Ashtekar variables. The guiding principle is the use of triads to transform all free spatial indices into SU(2) indices. A central role is played by a special covariant derivative. The Gauss, diffeomorphism and Hamiltonian constraints become purely algebraic restrictions on the curvature and the ...

in this paper we introduce the concept of entropy operator for continuous systems of finite topological entropy. it is shown that it generates the kolmogorov entropy as a special case. if $phi$ is invertible then the entropy operator is bounded with the topological entropy of $phi$ as its norm.

‎in this text we prove that in generalized shift dynamical system $(x^gamma,sigma_varphi)$‎ ‎for finite discrete $x$ with at least two elements‎, ‎infinite countable set $gamma$ and‎ ‎arbitrary map $varphi:gammatogamma$‎, ‎the following statements are equivalent‎: ‎ - the dynamical system $(x^gamma,sigma_varphi)$ is‎ li-yorke chaotic;‎ - the dynamical system $(x^gamma,sigma_varphi)$ has‎ an scr...

Suppose that N is an isolating neighborhood for S with respect to a continuous map f which decomposes into a disjoint union of nitely many compact sets. We establish a relationship between the Conley indices of subsets of S which appear in a natural way when studying the behavior of f from the viewpoint of symbolic dynamics. The relationship is then used to prove a simple criterion for chaos in...

This study presents a dynamical systems model for long-term scenarios of demand in the aviation sector and resultant emissions of CO2 and NOx. We analyze the dynamics of demand growth for aviation, particularly in the emerging markets of developing nations. A model for subsonic aviation emissions is presented that reflects the consequences of industry forecasts for improvement in aviation fuel ...

Fractal dimension spectra have been used to characterize the complexity of dynamical time series since the 1980s. Calculation of these spectra are traditionally based on fixed-size methods that are grid-based, such as the histogram technique, or sample-based, such as the correlation-integral method. This paper extends the Chhabra and Jensen direct approach on histogrambinned data by deriving th...

Dynamical systems, such as electric circuits, mechanical systems, and chemical plants, can be modeled by mixed matrix pencils, i.e., matrix pencils having two kinds of nonzero coefficients: fixed constants that account for conservation laws and independent parameters that represent physical characteristics. Based on dimension analysis of dynamical systems, Murota (1985) introduced a physically ...
