Ionomycin and A23187 are divalent cation ionophores with a marked preference for calcium. Studies using these ionophores have almost exclusively interpreted their results in the light of calcium elevation. It was the aim of this study to investigate the effects of ionomycin in osteoblatic MC3T3-E1 cells that are not attributable to its ionophoric properties. Thus, we have found that in contrast...

Zinc is an important trace element for immune function. Here, we show that zinc addition in a serum- and lipopolysaccharide-free cell culture system leads to significantly enhanced levels of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta) and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and to expression of the corresponding mRNA in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Structurally related divalent cati...

The stoichiometric nickel oxide is an insulator while it becomes a p-type semiconductor with the presence of divalent and trivalent states. Here nonstoichiometric nanoparticles (NiO${}_{x}$NPs) were synthesized via chemical route using two different starter salts; chloride hexahydrate nitrate hexahydrate. investigated by X-ray diffraction transmission electron microscopy, scanning to determine ...

Inorganic pigments based on AB2O4 (A = Co, Ni; B Cr, Al) spinel structures with green colour were successfully synthesised by the polymeric route. The effect of substitution trivalent and divalent cations structural, optical morphological properties was investigated. nanopowders examined using thermogravimetry-di?erential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron mic...

DNA-protein cross-links (DPXs) in fish erythrocytes represent a potential biomarker for exposure to metal cations, such as hexavalent chromium (Cr[VI]) and divalent nickel (Ni[II]). Species-specific sensitivities to DPX formation were studied by coexposure of juvenile specimens of rainbow trout, hybrid bluegill, and channel catfish to waterborne metals, such as Cr(VI) and Ni(II). In a species c...

Infrared spectra of a carbon monoxy-bound form of the EPR silent Ni(II) species of hydrogenase isolated from Chromatium vinosum are presented. These spectra show a band at 2060 cm-1 due to v(CO) for a metal-CO complex. This absorbance shifts to 2017 cm-1 upon exposure of the enzyme to 13CO. This band is attributed to v(CO) from a Ni(II)-CO species. It is shown that the CO on this species is pho...

Zeolites containing Zn in their frameworks are promising materials for ion-exchange and catalysis because of their unique ion-exchange capabilities and characteristic Lewis acidity. However, expensive organic compounds often required in their synthesis can prevent their practical uses. Here, a facile organic-free synthesis route for new zincoaluminosilicate zeolites having MOR topology, in whic...
