Quantum universality can be achieved using classically controlled stabilizer operations and repeated preparation of certain ancilla states. Which ancilla states suffice for universality? This “magic states distillation” question is closely related to quantum fault tolerance. Lower bounds on the noise tolerable on the ancilla help give lower bounds on the tolerable noise rate threshold for fault...

We experimentally demonstrate the two-step distillation of entanglement. The output of a first distillation stage underwent a second distillation step and was made available for subsequent steps. Our experiment displays the realization of the building blocks required for an entanglement distillation scheme that can fully overcome decoherence.

Cache hierarchies play a very important role in bridging the speed gap between processors and memory. As this gap increases, it becomes increasingly important to intelligently design and manage a cache system. The performance of current caches is reduced because more than half of the data that is brought into the cache is never referenced, resulting in very low utilization. We propose line dist...

A study has been made of various methods of distillation of solutions of furfural and of xylose with the object of increasing the 88-percent yield of furfural obtained from xylose by the present standard m ethod of distillation. Sources of error that have been considered are: Decomposition of furfural, volatilization of furfural, effect of rubber stoppers used in the distillation procedure, inc...

An examination of the program of the next meeting of distillation and absorption indicates there are only a few lectures on thermodynamcis. The authors asked some important companies to give their view of the trends in thermodynamics. This plenary lecture concerns some of the remaining challenges in the thermodynamics related to distillation: data banks and locations for measuring experimental ...

Essential oils have increasing importance in flavour and fragrance industries. They are obtained by distillation techniques. In order to produce an oil with market potential its optimum production parameters have to be well known prior to its commercial production. Determination of the steam distillation parameters of commercially available Laurel leaves oil in pilot plant scale is described. T...

Reactive distillation has received intense attention due to the well known benefits of integrating distillation with reaction in a single unit. While there are procedures available for the synthesis of non-reactive columns and of reaction-separation systems, the design of reactive distillation columns is still a challenge. This work presents a new synthesis and design methodology for reactive d...

Crude oil distillation (atmospheric distillation column with furnace) consumes about 50% of the energy required in oil refinery plant. To achieve further reduction of the energy required in oil refinery plants, it is required to investigate the crude oil distillation and to retrofit it for energy saving process. Recently, authors developed an innovative process design technology, self-heat recu...

eryngium caucasicum trautv. (apiaceae) is a perennial herbaceous plant with about one meter height, an endemic species that has been distributed in the northern parts of iran. the plant leaves are normally used in medicine and food industries in iran.the plant has several medicinal properties including enforcing generative power, diuretic, lenitive and appetizer. in this research differents par...

Batch distillation is an important separation process for small-scale production especially in pharmaceutical, specialty chemical and biochemical industries. Although batch distillation units require lower capital cost than continuous units, the unsteady state nature of the process, results in higher operating costs. Optimal control in batch distillation is a mode of operation which allows us t...
