This paper reports the results of the in situ application of diffusive gradients in thin-films (DGT) passive samplers for trace metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn) monitoring in transboundary Udy and Lopan rivers of the Seversky Donets watershed in the Kharkiv region,Ukraine, which has a long history of industrial development. The research discusses potential sources of DGT-measured labile m...
Many regulatory frameworks for sediment quality assessment include consideration of contaminant bioavailability. However, the "snap-shots" of metal bioavailability provided by analyses of porewaters or acid-volatile sulfide-simultaneously extractable metal (AVS-SEM) relationships do not always contribute sufficient information. The use of inappropriate or inadequate information for assessing me...
The technique of DGT (diffusive gradients in thin films) was applied to obtain high-resolution vertical profiles of dissolved reactive phosphorus (DRP) in sediment porewater of Lake Chaohu, a shallow eutrophication lake. Three kinds of DGT probes (with three thicknesses of diffusive gel: 0.38 mm, 0.78 mm and 1.18 mm) measured vertical concentration and induced flux from solid to solution phase ...
The performance of the diffusive gradient in thin film technique (DGT) was evaluated as a tool for the long-term monitoring of water quality, using uranium as a case study. DGTs with a Metsorb™ (TiO2) sorbent were deployed consecutively at two alkaline freshwater sites, the River Enborne and the River Lambourn, UK for seven-day intervals over a five-month deployment period to obtain time weight...
total concentrations of mineral elements in soil bear little relation to their availability for plants. the dgt (diffusive gradients in thin-films) technique has been found to be a good predictor of trace metals, micronutrients, phosphorous and potassium bio-availability and uptake. in the dgt technique, elements are accumulated on a binding gel after their diffusive transport through a hydroge...
Widespread use of bisphenols (BPs) in our daily life results in their elevated concentrations in waters and the need to study their environmental impact, which demands reliable and robust measurement techniques. Diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) is an in situ passive sampling approach which provides time-integrated data. In this study we developed a new methodology, based on DGT with acti...
The potential of the Diffusive Gradient Thin-Films (DGT) as a supplemental method for water quality monitoring was employed has been tested through 3 sampling campaigns to measure the trace metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn) present in the surface water of a highly urbanized river. Specifically, the study done in the Pasig River (Philippines) seeks to: assess the applicability of DGT passiv...
Management of metal-contaminated sediments requires an accurate knowledge of metal distribution and metal exchanges between the solid and solution phase. The DGT technique (diffusive gradients in thin films) provides information about the characteristics of metal release from the particles to the porewaters. However, the species of metals that participate in the exchange are not well documented...
In surface sediments, metal mobility is controlled by the recruitment and turn-over of organic matter whereas sulphide is thought to control the concentration of metals in sediment pore water by removing them from the solution. DGT is a dynamic probe that measures the kinetically available fraction of metals or sulphide. DGT uses a credit card size probe inserted into the sediment that provides...
An iterative time-variant filtering based on the discrete Gabor transform (DGT) has been recently proposed by the authors. In this correspondence, we present a proof of the convergence of the iterative algorithm under a sufficient condition on the analysis and synthesis window functions of the DGT. In the meantime, we show that the iterative algorithm refines the least squares solution.
