Ultrasonography has been commonly used in the diagnosis of intraabdominal cysts like ovarian cysts. Massive ovarian cysts can mimic ascites clinically (a condition termed pseudoascites) and ultrasonographically and can cause delay in the diagnosis and management. Clinicians should therefore consider other differential diagnoses in cases of large intraabdominal fluid collection. We report such a...

Pancreatic cysts are increasingly recognized as a dilemma in clinical practice because of their uncertain risk of malignancy. Because diagnosis by cytology is insensitive, current guidelines suggest using radiographic and clinical criteria to determine the appropriateness of surgery or surveillance, although this is far from perfect. ALTHOUGH comparatively rare, spontaneous cysts of the ciliary body have evoked numerous contributions to the literature. The diagnosis is essentially clinical and differentiation from a melanosarcoma may be very difficult. These cysts were well named pseudo-melanosarcomata by Pagenstecher (1910). Before the report of Fischer (1920), the diagnosis of such cysts had been established only by histo...

Popliteal cysts occur commonly both in normal and arthritic knees. Most cysts are formed by distension of the medially situated semimembranosus bursa. Diagnosis was made with the help imaging modalities like ultrasonography and/or contrast-e...

Collapsed membranes and daughter cysts are pathognomonic for hydatid cysts on imaging. The comma-shaped lesions, visible within the hydatid cyst in sagittal view of MRI, are collapsed membranes. Although primary hydatid cyst of pelvic cavity is rare, clinicians should remember to include hydatid cysts in differential diagnosis of pelvic cysts.

Bronchogenic cysts are benign congenital aberrations belonging to the spectrum of digestive duplications. Intrathoracic forms are the most common and are essentially mediastinal along the tracheobronchial axis in 2/3 of the cases, but can also occur in the lung, pericardium and diaphragm. They are characterized by clinical and radiological polymorphism and pose a differential diagnosis with oth...

Two large cysts recovered from the abdominal cavity of a domestic chicken superficially resembled hydatid cysts of Echinococcus spp. No protoscolices were present. Microscopic examination of the internal lining of one of the cysts revealed a single cuboidal to columnar, ciliated epithelium, leading to a diagnosis of oviduct cysts. Earlier records of hydatids of fowl are reviewed.
