We present an analysis of the thermoelectric properties of of n-type GeTe and SnTe in relation to the lead chalcogenides PbTe and PbSe. We find that the singly degenerate conduction bands of semiconducting GeTe and SnTe are highly non-ellipsoidal, even very close to the band edges. This leads to isoenergy surfaces with a strongly corrugated shape that is clearly evident at carrier concentration...

Spoof surface waves are demonstrated theoretically to propagate along periodic corrugated surfaces made of non-conductive lossless materials with positive permittivity. An analytic derivation the wave dispersion relation is presented in case deeply subwavelength period a structure using impedance boundary conditions at interfaces. Thus obtained verified numerically and limitations as well physi...

A unique nanoheterostructure, a boron-filled hybrid carbon nanotube (BHCNT), has been synthesized using a one-step chemical vapor deposition process. The BHCNTs can be considered to be a novel form of boron carbide consisting of boron doped, distorted multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) encapsulating boron nanowires. These MWCNTs were found to be insulating in spite of their graphitic layered...

In recent years, the fabrication of bulk materials with ultra fine grain sized materials processed by SPD methods. Different techniques have been used to introduce large plastic strains in to bulk metals such as Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) [1-3], Accumulative Roll Bonding (ARB) [4-7], Repetitive Corrugation and Straitening (RCS) [8,9], Constrained Groove Pressing (CGP) [5] and Constra...

The title compound, Rb+·H3CN2O-, has been crystallized in liquid ammonia as a reaction product of the reductive ammonolysis of the natural compound streptozocin. Elemental rubidium was used as reduction agent as it is soluble in liquid ammonia, forming a blue solution. Reductive bond cleavage in biogenic materials under kinetically controlled conditions offers a new approach to gain access to s...

Turbulent heat transfer in Helically Corrugated Tubes (HCT) was numerically investigated for pure water and SiO2 nanofluid using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This study was carried out for different corrugating pitches (5, 7, 8 mm) and heights (0.5, 0.75, 1.25 mm) at various Reynolds numbers ranging from 5000 to 13300. The effect of nanoparticles on heat transfer augmentation for plain t...

Triboelectric energy harvesting has been applied to various fields, from large-scale power generation to small electronics. Triboelectric energy is generated when certain materials come into frictional contact, e.g., static electricity from rubbing a shoe on a carpet. In particular, textile-based triboelectric energy-harvesting technologies are one of the most promising approaches because they ...

We propose the nano-scale displacement sensor with high resolution for weak-force systems could be realized based on vertical stacked two-dimensional (2D) atomic corrugated layer materials bound through Van der Waals (VdW) interaction. Using first-principles calculations, we found the electronic structure of bi-layer blue phosphorus (BLBP) varies appreciably to both the lateral and vertical int...

This study was conducted to investigate the use of post-consumer corrugated board in controlled low-strength material (CLSM) applications. Corrugated fiberboard (termed corrugate), which constitutes a significant fraction of the municipal solid waste stream in the United States (approximately one third by weight), was used as a partial replacement for fine aggregate in CLSM at aggregate replace...

We present a simple mechanical model for dynamic wetting phenomena. Metallic balls spread along a periodically corrugated surface simulating molecules of liquid advancing along a solid substrate. A vertical stack of balls mimics a liquid droplet. Stochastic motion of the balls, driven by mechanical vibration of the corrugated surface, induces diffusional motion. Simple theoretical estimates are...
