Among several techniques available for solving Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) problems, the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method is one of the best suited approaches when a parallelized hardware platform is used. In this paper we investigate the feasibility of implementing the FDTD method using the NVIDIA® GT 520, a low cost Graphical Processing Unit (GPU), for solving the differen...

This paper discusses techniques used to develop an electronic book about electromagnetics. The techniques are based on problem-based learning, which is the latest method used for teaching. This method, together with engineering tools, is well suited for teaching these subjects to students in Asia. The proposed techniques allows teaching to be not limited to paper study by allowing the use of mu...

Periodic structures involving crossed arrays of cylinders appear as special three-dimensional photonic crystals and cross-stacked gratings. Such a structure consists of a number of layers where each layer is periodic in one spatial direction and invariant in another direction. They are relatively simple to fabricate and have found valuable applications. For analyzing scattering properties of su...

− This paper presents results from calculating the radar cross section (RCS) of two maritime radar reflectors using the method of moments. The Echomaster 152, although smaller in size, produces a higher maximum RCS than the Echomax 230 that includes three layers of corner reflectors. The Echomaster 152 also has deeper nulls in the RCS pattern, which means it is less detectable at those angles.

Computational electromagnetics are useful for examining communication link performance in complex propagation environments. In this paper we illustrate how different characterizations of narrowband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels, including the mutual information, received power, and effective rank, behave as a function of location. Large-scale simulation results are presented fo...

This paper investigates the particular problem of matrices appearing during the modeling of Integrated Circuits with Finite Integration Technique (FIT) method. We present the key points of FIT approach followed by an illustration of the structure and the properties of the FIT-type matrix. A novel algorithm SMark is proposed, which focuses on fill-ins number reduction. The main idea of SMark is ...

Prior to recent advances in computational electromagnetics, a deterministic timedomain simulation of a wireless channel was deemed too expensive to implement. Conventionally, wireless channel designers use more practical measurement-based techniques, involving statistical models or channel transfer functions [1–3]. However, despite their convenience, such techniques can be inaccurate and lead t...
