The field equations of the generalized field theory (GFT) are derived from an action principle. A comparison between (GFT), Møller’s tetrad theory of gravitation (MTT), and general relativity is carried out regarding the Lagrangian of each theory. The results of solutions of the field equations, of each theory, are compared in case of spherical symmetry. The differences between the results are ...

Since the mid-1960s, the development of Meaning-Text Theory (MTT) can be followed in Russian, French, and English publications. The main authors of this theory are I. A. Melt~uk and A. K. 7.olkowskij, the first works with a more global insight into MTT being 7.olkowskij and Mel~uk (1965, 1967). Since that time, MTT has been developing and has brought considerable results. Nowadays, there are hu...

This document gives a brief introduction to the topic of Semantic Role Labeling using Dependency Syntax. We also describe a system that has been developed and tested on a corpus from the CoNLL-20081 shared task. We evaluate the system and give a short discussion on further improvements. Our results are reasonably good compared to those reached during the shared task.

When creating a new resource, preprocessing the source texts before annotation is both ubiquitous and obvious. How the preprocessing affects the annotation effort for various tasks is for the most part an open question, however. In this paper, we study the effects of preprocessing on the annotation of dependency corpora and how annotation speed varies as a function of the quality of three diffe...

The paper describes a formal theory for the dependency approach to syntax. The formalism is able to deal with long-distance dependencies, involved in function sharing and extractions. The distinctive aspects of the approach are the use of non lexical categories and a GPSG-style treatment of long-distance dependencies. The formalism is applied to a number of coordination phenomena, that are well...

In this paper, we discuss the use of the Meaning-Text Theory (MTT) of [Mel88] in a controlled language (CL) application. We show that MTT defines a linguistic framework which is ideally suited for the definition and automation of CL rules. In the paper, we first briefly present a CL system based on MTT. We then discuss MTT in more detail. We show how CL-specific information can be represented s...

We study the performance of Arabic text classification combining various techniques: (a) tfidf vs. dependency syntax, for feature selection and weighting; (b) class association rules vs. support vector machines, for classification. The Arabic text is used in two forms: rootified and lightly stemmed. The results we obtain show that lightly stemmed text leads to better performance than rootified ...

Recent research has shown clear improvement in translation quality by exploiting linguistic syntax for either the source or target language. However, when using syntax for both languages (“tree-to-tree” translation), there is evidence that syntactic divergence can hamper the extraction of useful rules (Ding and Palmer 2005). Smith and Eisner (2006) introduced quasi-synchronous grammar, a formal...
