The subunits of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV from Staphylococcus haemolyticus were expressed in Escherichia coli, purified to homogeneity, and used to reconstitute active enzymes that were sensitive to known topoisomerase inhibitors. This represents the first description of a method for isolating type II topoisomerases of a coagulase-negative staphylococcal species.

Herein, we describe the isolation of Staphylococcus pasteuri, Staphylococcus pettenkoferi and Staphylococcus gallinarum and summarize the clinical characteristics of five patients. Cases were identified over a 2-year surveillance period that identified the respective strains using microbiologic and molecular methods. These data suggest that rare coagulase-negative staphylococcal infections may ...

Staphylococcus aureus (including Methicillin-resistant S. aureus) and coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp (including methicillin-resistant coagulase negative) permanently or transiently colonize humans and act as sources of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, bacteraemia and infective endocarditis. They also cause chronic infection of indwelling medical devices. Treatment of these in...

A 60-year-old female came to our hospital with defective vision due to persistent diabetic macular edema and was treated with intravitreal ozurdex implant in the right eye. Three days later, the patient presented with diminution of vision, ocular pain, congestion, and hypopyon with no fundus view. B-scan ultrasonography showed vitritis, and diagnosis of endophthalmitis was made. Subsequently, 2...

Six cases of coagulase-negative staphylococcal mediastinitis were identified in the latter half of 1999. A new preoperative cleansing solution was suspected by hospital staff to be a factor in the outbreak. We evaluated this possible risk factor along with other known and suspected surgical site infection risk factors in this case-control study.

Coagulase-negative staphylococcal species are a common cause of subclinical bovine mastitis, with Staphylococcus chromogenes being one of the most frequently identified species in these cases. The draft genome sequence of an S. chromogenes isolate (MU 970) recovered from the milk of a cow with a chronic intramammary infection is reported here.

Molecular typing of isolates revealed that neonatal coagulase-negative staphylococcal (CONS) septicemia is most frequently caused by predominant, antibiotic-resistant CONS types, which are widely distributed among both neonates and staff of the neonatal unit, suggesting cross-contamination. Therefore, infection control measures may be valuable in the prevention of this common nosocomial septice...
