A facile strategy is developed for mass fabrication of porous Co3O4 networks via the thermal decomposition of an amorphous cobalt-based complex. At a low mass loading, the achieved porous Co3O4 network exhibits excellent performance for lithium storage, which has a high capacity of 587 mA h g(-1) after 500 cycles at a current density of 1000 mA g(-1).

Ultrathin 2D Co3O4 and Co3V2O8 nanosheets have been produced from our modified hydrothermal technique (MHT). Both the materials have been proved to be extraordinary electrode materials for pseudocapacitors. The neat nanosheets of Co3O4 and Co3V2O8 exhibit a record specific capacitance value of 1256 F g(-1) and 4194 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) current density, respectively.

A novel three-dimensional (3D) metal/metal oxide core/branch array electrode has been fabricated as a supercapacitor electrode. Hollow Ni nanocorn arrays are constructed on Ni foams and act as a highly conductive and stable support to Co3O4 nanoflakes. Enhanced pseudocapacitive performance compared to bare Co3O4 nanosheets is demonstrated with high rate capability and excellent cycling stability.
