Clostridium perfringens type D causes disease in sheep, goats, and other ruminants. Type D isolates produce, at minimum, alpha and epsilon (ETX) toxins, but some express up to five different toxins, raising questions about which toxins are necessary for the virulence of these bacteria. We evaluated the contribution of ETX to C. perfringens type D pathogenicity in an intraduodenal challenge mode...

in this research a molecular method based on polymerase chain reaction for typing of clostridium perfringens was developed and toxin genotypes of 64 isolates from sheep and goats in iran were determined. the pcr assays were developed for detection of alpha (cpa), beta (cpb) and epsilon (etx) toxin genes, allowing classification of the isolates into genotypes a b, c and d. the field isolates ...

conclusions periodic evaluation of antimicrobial susceptibility for c. perfringens should be performed. harboring of enterotoxigenic c. perfringens in individuals not necessarily results in diarrhea. results of 136 stool samples including diarrhea [48] and non-diarrhea [88] ones, 83 (61.02%) c. perfringens were cultured. of these 83, 79 c. perfringens isolates showed the alpha-toxin (phospholip...

Abstract Background and purpose: Clostridium perfringens is one of the pathogenic bacterial factors in animals and one of the important causes for food poisoning in human. The essence of P.atlanticaSubsp. Kurdica fruit or wild pistachios has been recognized as an anti- microbial compound against most of micro-ore anti-organisms. The purpose of this research is to determine the anti-microbial a...

Clostridium perfringens type D strains cause enterotoxemia and enteritis in livestock via epsilon toxin production. In type D strain CN3718, CodY was previously shown to increase the level of epsilon toxin production and repress sporulation. C. perfringens type A strains producing C. perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) cause human food poisoning and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Sporulation is crit...

The prevalences of various genotypes of enterotoxin gene-carrying (cpe-positive) Clostridium perfringens type A in 24 different food poisoning outbreaks were 75% (chromosomal IS1470-cpe), 21% (plasmid-borne IS1470-like-cpe), and 4% (plasmid-borne IS1151-cpe). These results show that C. perfringens type A carrying the plasmid-borne cpe is a common cause of food poisoning.

Isolates of Clostridium perfringens type D produce the potent epsilon-toxin (a CDC/U.S. Department of Agriculture overlap class B select agent) and are responsible for several economically significant enterotoxemias of domestic livestock. It is well established that the epsilon-toxin structural gene, etx, occurs on large plasmids. We show here that at least two of these plasmids are conjugative...

A monoclonal antibody (BALB/c mouse) with specificity for a neutralizing epitope on the epsilon-toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens type D was used to raise anti-idiotypic antibodies (anti-Id) in different strains of mice and rabbits. These were purified and used in cross-immunization studies to induce anti-(anti-idiotype). All strains of mice and rabbits immunized with BALB/c-derived ant...

Background and Aim: Clostridium perfringens is one of the major agents of food poisoning in humans around the world. This study was accomplished to identify and track the toxins of Clostridium perfringens bacterium in some raw animal food origin products in Shahrekord. Materials and Methods: In this study, 100 samples of traditional and commercial curd and 43 samples of beef and lamb meats wer...
