I present a notion of invariance under arbitrary surjective mappings for operators on a relational finite type hierarchy generalizing the so called Tarski-Sher criterion for logicality and I characterize the invariant operators as definable in a fragment of the first-order language. These results are compared with those obtained by Feferman and it is argued that further clarification of the not...

We propose a hamiltonian formulation of the N = 2 supersymmetric KP type hierarchy recently studied by Krivonos and Sorin. We obtain a quadratic hamiltonian structure which allows for several reductions of the KP type hierarchy. In particular , the third family of N = 2 KdV hierarchies is recovered. We also give an easy construction of Wronskian solutions of the KP and KdV type equations.

We survey nearly 1300 OWL ontologies and RDFS schemas. The collection of statistical data allows us to perform analysis and report some trends. Though most of the documents are syntactically OWL Full, very few stay in OWL Full when the syntactic errors are fixed. We also report the frequency of occurrences of OWL language constructs and the shape of class hierarchies in the ontologies. Finally,...

Recently the maximum margin criterion has been employed to learn a discriminative class hierarchical model, which shows promising performance for rapid multi-class prediction. Specifically, at each node of this hierarchy, a separating hyperplane is learned to split its associated classes from all of the corresponding training data, leading to a time-consuming training process in computer vision...

Inheritance is a powerful mechanism in Object-Oriented (OO) programming. This mechanism supports the class hierarchy design and captures the IS-A relationship between a super class and its subclass. Several OO metrics have been proposed and their reviews are available in the literature. Among the various measurements of OO characteristics, this paper focuses on the metrics of class inheritance ...

Optimizing compilers for object-oriented languages apply static class analysis and other techniques to try to deduce precise information about the possible classes of the receivers of messages; if successful, dynamicallydispatched messages can be replaced with direct procedure calls and potentially further optimized through inline-expansion. By examining the complete inheritance graph of a prog...

Encapsulation and the definition of objects in the respective classes facilitates the modification of object-oriented systems, but the class hierarchy may also be a source of problems. First, before changing the definition of a class, the analyst must verify that the change is coherent with regard to subclasses of the class recursively. Second, the reusability of the properties and the uniformi...
