The catalytic dehydrogenation of LiBH(4) doped with exceptionally low quantities of carbon-supported Pt nanoparticles can be improved significantly, and smaller Pt nanoparticles result in greater enhanced catalytic dehydrogenation of LiBH(4) than do larger Pt nanoparticles.

in the present work, the electrooxidation of formic acid and formaldehyde; potentially important fuels for future fuel cells, was investigated on the fe3o4@pt core-shell nanoparticles/carbon-ceramic electrode (fe3o4@pt/cce). the fe3o4@pt nanoparticles were prepared via a simple and fast chemical method and their surface morphology, nanostructure properties, chemical composition, crystal phase, ...

BACKGROUND Inhalation of particulate matter, as part of air pollution, is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Nanoparticles (< 100 nm) are likely candidates for triggering inflammatory responses and activation of coagulation pathways because of their ability to enter lung cells and pass bronchial mucosa. We tested the hypothesis that bronchial segmental instillation of carbon nan...

We present here comparative assessments of murine lung toxicity (biocompatibility) after in vitro and in vivo exposures to carbon (C-SiO2-etched), carbon-silica (C-SiO2), carbon-cobalt-silica (C-Co-SiO2), and carbon-cobalt oxide-silica (C-Co3O4-SiO2) nanoparticles. These nanoparticles have potential applications in clinical medicine and bioimaging, and thus their possible adverse events require...

The attachment of semiconducting nanoparticles to carbon nanotubes is one of the most challenging subjects in nanotechnology. Successful high coverage attachment and control over the charge transfer mechanism and photo-current generation open a wide field of new applications such as highly effective solar cells and fibre-enhanced polymers. In this work we study the charge transfer in individual...

This paper discusses the mechanisms of surface area loss of supported platinum (Pt) electrocatalysts in lowtemperature fuel cells. It is argued that submonolayer dissolution of Pt nanoparticles governs the surface area loss at high voltages by increasing the loss of Pt from carbon and coarsening of Pt nanoparticles on carbon.

Coprecipitated ferrite nanoparticles were coated with carbon using a hydrothermal method. From transmission electron microscope pictures, we could see that the coated iron oxide nanoparticles were spherical in shape with an average diameter of 90 nm. The strong bonding of carbon on the nanoparticle surfaces was checked by noting the C = O and C = C vibrations in Fourier transform infrared spect...

Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) performance of iron and nitrogen co-doped porous carbon nanoparticles (Fe-NPC) with various physical and (electro) chemical properties have been investigated. Fe-NPC nanoparticles are synthesized via a facile soft-templating procedure by using Iron (III) chloride hexa-hydrate as iron precursor and aminophenol-formaldehyde resin as both carbon and nitrogen precurs...

Gold nanoparticle-carbon foam composites with highly-dispersed gold nanoparticles confined in the cavities were prepared. The gold nanoparticles are effectively separated from each other by permeable carbon shells, which show high temperature stability and were fully accessible to the substrate.

Gold nanoparticles encapsulated in porous carbon spheres with high surface areas (~800 m(2) g(-1)) have been synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP). The porous carbon-encapsulated gold nanoparticles exhibit excellent catalytic activity toward the reductions of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic nitroaromatics.
