In this paper we establish rigorously that the family of Burgers vortices of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation is stable for small Reynolds numbers. More precisely, we prove that any solution whose initial condition is a small perturbation of a Burgers vortex will converge toward another Burgers vortex as time goes to infinity, and we give an explicit formula for computing the change...

A simplified one-dimensional model system is introduced and studied here that exhibits intrinsic chaos with many degrees of freedom as well as increased predictability and slower decay of correlations for the large-scale features of the system. These are important features in common with vastly more complex problems involving climate modeling or molecular biological systems. This model is a sui...

The equal width wave (EW) equation is a model partial differential equation for the simulation of one-dimensional wave propagation in nonlinear media with dispersion processes. The EW-Burgers equation models the propagation of nonlinear and dispersive waves with certain dissipative effects. In this work, we derive exact solitary wave solutions for the general form of the EW equation and the gen...

A number of nonlinear phenomena in many branches of sciences such as physical [6], chemical, economical [20] and biological processes [15,14] are described by the interplay of reaction and diffusion or by the interaction between convection and diffusion. One of the well-known partial differential equations (PDEs) which governs a wide variety of them is Burgers equation, which provides the simpl...

Spatially periodic complex-valued solutions of the Burgers and KdV-Burgers equations are studied in this paper. It is shown that for any sufficiently large time T , there exists an explicit initial data such that its corresponding solution of the Burgers equation blows up at T . In addition, the global convergence and regularity of series solutions is established for initial data satisfying mil...

Scaling limits for the solution of Burgers equation are investigated. It is shown that the limiting distribution for the solution of Wick type Burgers equation with Gaussian initial data is the same as that for the solution of Burgers equation with ordinary product calculated in [LPW96].

This document provides a proof that the solutions to Convectively Filtered Burgers equation, will converge to the entropy solution of Inviscid Burgers equation when certain restrictions are put on the initial conditions. It does so by first establishing convergence to a weak solution of Inviscid Burgers equation. That solution is then shown to be the entropy solution.

We obtain the exact solution for the Burgers equation with a time dependent forcing, which depends linearly on the spatial coordinate. For the case of a stochastic time dependence an exact expression for the joint probability distribution for the velocity fields at multiple spatial points is obtained. A connection with stretched vortices in hydrodynamic flows is discussed. Burgers equation [1],...

Within the class of nonlinear hyperbolic balance laws posed on a curved spacetime (endowed with a volume form), we identify a hyperbolic balance law that enjoys the same Lorentz invariance property as the one satisfied by the Euler equations of relativistic compressible fluids. This model is unique up to normalization and converges to the standard inviscid Burgers equation in the limit of infin...
