This paper describes work done in response to a commission from the Ministry of Defence DEC ISTAR office, on behalf of the MoD Directorate of Targeting and Information Operations. The overall requirement was to provide guidance to Information Operations staff both in the UK and in theatre. The objectives of the particular work package discussed in this paper were: to assess the suitability of a...

The work breakdown structure (WBS) is a vehicle for breaking an engineering project down into subproject, tasks, subtasks, work packages, and so on. It is an important planning tool which links objectives with resources and activities in a logical framework. It becomes an important status monitor during the actual implementation as the completions of subtasks are measured against the project pl...

We show that it is possible to obtain spontaneous CP violation in the minimal SU(2)L × SU(2)R ×U(1)B−L, i.e. in a left right symmetric model containing a bidoublet and two triplets in the scalar sector. For this to be a natural scenario, the non-diagonal quartic couplings between the two scalar triplets and the bidoublet play a fundamental role. We analyze the corresponding Higgs spectrum, the ...

It is a widely-supported tenet in human-computer interaction that the meaningful unit of analysis is not the technical device alone, but the technical device together with the person interacting with it; the reason is that what is a relevant property of a technology is only understandable with respect to the specific goals and resources activated during its usage. This basic reflection should a...

L ike the waistband of your pants after Thanksgiving dinner, neurons have to be able to stretch and then return to shape. On page 269 Hammarlund et al. pinpoint the protein that confers this springiness, showing that neurons lacking the molecule fracture. Movements such as bending your elbow put strain on neurons, but the source of the cells' elasticity has been a mystery. Hammar-lund et al. su...

A recent theory of the nearly axisymmetric vortex breakdown in a pipe is presented. We study the motion of an axisymmetric and inviscid swirling ow in a pipe with certain boundary conditions that may reeect the physical situation. The theory is built of global analysis of solutions of the Squire-Long equation and linear stability analysis of these solutions. The theory uniies the major previous...

Executive summary This deliverable documents the work performed by the authors in the context of work package WP7 of the EU project BRICS. The authors of this report all work at the University of Bergamo, which is the partner in BRICS responsible for promoting and supporting the development of Open and Flexible Robotic Systems. WP7 is a cross-sectional work package as Openness and Flexibility a...

Within the EU FP6 Integrated Project WINNER, adaptive transmission is investigated as a key technology for boosting the spectral efficiency of a new radio interface for 4G systems. Adaptive allocation of time-frequency chunks in an OFDM-based system offers a significant potential, but also poses challenges. Within work package two of WINNER, we study critical issues such as the feasibility of a...

This document describes given an analysis of the computer security aspects of the demonstrator developed in work package 12 of the Wireless Health and Care (WsHC) project. A risk analysis is performed and requirements for the system are established. The implementation of security measurements implemented in the demonstrator is discussed. Finally the risk analysis is revised according to the pro...

The homotopy Lie (L∞) categorification of D-particle field theory in the method of gauged S-duality spontaneous breakdown is investigated. We show the non-trivial definition of the D-particle fields category and give explicit formulae for its higher composition structures. As a result, we can recognize the physical significance of D-particle fields for determinism and undeterminism.
