Dermatofibroma, also known as benign fibrous histiocytoma, is a soft-tissue tumour that usually occurs in the mid-adult life and shows a slight female predominance. Giant dermatofibroma, a very rare clinical variant, is characterised by its unusually large size, benign biological behaviour despite its large size and same histopathological characteristics as conventional dermatofibroma. We repor...
Introduction Benign fibrous histiocytomas are common lesions of the skin that rarely affect the tongue. Such cases are available in the literature exclusively as case reports. Similarly, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, now classified as undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, is exceedingly rare in the tongue and not fully understood. Objectives This study systematically reviews the available l...
Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma (MFH) rarely affects the abdomen and only a few cases arising in the mesentery have to date been discovered. In this paper, two cases of MFH of the mesentery are described and a review of the literature is reported.
A right sided mid-tongue growth in a 14-year-old boy diagnosed initially as Pyogenic Granuloma was found subsequently to be a Benign Fibrous Histiocytoma. This lesion had three seeming recurrences with divergent histologic and clinical appearances within a short period of time. Although there was eventual consensus on the morphogenesis and benign histologic nature of the lesion this caused diag...
A case of fibrous histiocytoma of low grade malignancy arising from the uncinate lobe of the pancreas is reported. This is an unusual site for these extremely rare tumours. Survival up to 4 years has been achieved in our patient following surgical resection.
A rare case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma involving the whole eye is reported in an Oriental 60-year-old man. Six months' follow-up after exenteration did not show any evidence of local recurrence or distant metastases.
Clinical, light microscopic, electron microscopic and immunocytochemical features of 4 cases (3 women and 1 man) of primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the breast are presented. The literature is reviewed and the diagnosis and treatment discussed. The good outcome is stressed and local excision or simple mastectomy recommended as appropriate treatment.
A malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the mediastinum was successfully treated by surgery and radiotherapy. Magnetic resonance imaging was able to show the site of invasion, the two different components of the tumour, and the blood supply.
