Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complicated autoimmune disease with a definite genetic predisposition. Thrombocytopenia predicts severe disease and death in SLE, making the identification of the related genetic risk factors especially important. We selected the 38 pedigrees that had an SLE patient with thrombocytopenia (platelets, < 10 x 10(9)/L [< 100,000/microL]) from a collection of ...

To elucidate the usefulness of $-thrombocoagulation (DIC). Plasma $TG was not globulin (fiTG) in the differentiation of the measurable in amegakaryocytic thrombomechanism of thrombocytopenia, plasma cytopenia, was normal in ATP, and was TG concentration was measured in one increased in TTP and DIC. These data mdipatient with amegakaryocytic thrombocycate that in thrombocytopenic patients, topen...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the occurrence of autoimmune and inflammatory complications in Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) and to determine risk factors and the prognosis of such complications with the aim of improving the definition of treatment options. METHODS We reviewed the records of 55 patients with WAS evaluated at Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital (Paris) from 1980 to 2000. RESULTS Forty p...

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune disease with the appearance of anti-phospholipid antibody (ACLA), Anti β2GPI and lupus anticoagulant (LAC) in serum. The antigen-antibody reaction on cell surface leads to thrombosis, miscarriage and inflammation. Clinical findings are diverse and include thrombosis in veins and arteries, pregnancy loss, thrombocytopenia, neurological and...

Wiscott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is an x-linked immune-deficiency disorder associated with eczema, recurrent infections, and increased frequency of autoimmune diseases, malignancy and thrombocytopenia with small size platelet. Our case is an 11 year old from a non- related parent, who was admitted with abdominal pain (hematoma), lower extremities bleeding (ecchymosed) and vomiting. Also, he had...

Antibodies to CD44 have been used to successfully ameliorate murine models of autoimmune disease. The most often studied disease model has been murine inflammatory arthritis, where a clear mechanism for the efficacy of CD44 antibodies has not been established. We have recently shown in a murine passive-model of the autoimmune disease immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) that some CD44 antibodies thems...

Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is a rare childhood disorder characterized by chronic non-malignant lymphoproliferation and autoimmunity. Patients with ALPS frequently exhibit episodic and intermittent, severe autoimmune- induced hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia or combined cytopenias. The co-occurrence of immune-mediated cytopenias, autoimmune thrombocytopenia and autoimmune h...

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease characterised by arterial and/or venous thrombosis and/or recurrent pregnancy loss in the presence of antiphospholipid (APL) antibodies. It is evaluated as APS when it develops associated with other systemic autoimmune diseases or primary APS if there is no concomitant disorder. In this study, we present a case of a 16-year-old male patie...

Celiac disease (CD) is an immunological disorder. Clinical manifestations occur as a result of intestinal mucosa damage and malabsorption. CD is also associated with extraintestinal manifestations and autoimmune disorders. The coexistence of CD and autoimmune diseases has been described before. In this article, a patient with CD presenting with thrombocytopenia is discussed.
