Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the eradication rate of Helicobacter pylori as the third-line triple therapy with rabeprazole (RPZ) + amoxicillin (AMPC) + levofloxacin (LVFX) and high-dose RPZ + AMPC. Methods. 51 patients who failed Japanese first-line (proton pump inhibitor (PPI) + AMPC + clarithromycin) and second-line (PPI + AMPC + metronidazole) eradication ...

Understanding the interplay between antibiotic resistance and bacterial fitness and virulence is essential to guide individual treatments and improve global antibiotic policies. A paradigmatic example of a resistance mechanism is the intrinsic inducible chromosomal β-lactamase AmpC from multiple Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a major nosocomial pathogen. The regulatio...

To determine the prevalence and genotype of an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase and new chromosomal AmpC beta-lactamases among clinical isolates of Enterobacter species, we performed antibiotic susceptibility testing, pI determination, induction tests, transconjugation, enterobacterial repetitive consensus (ERIC) PCR, sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis. Among the 51 clinical isolates collect...

A multiplex, real-time TaqMan assay was designed to identify clinical isolates carrying plasmid-mediated ampC genes. The specificity and sensitivity of this assay were 100% when testing characterized AmpC/non-AmpC-producing isolates and randomly selected clinical isolates. This is a rapid assay that can be performed in a clinical microbiology laboratory.

INTRODUCTION Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) and AmpC beta-lactamases (AmpC) are of concern for veterinary and public health because of their ability to cause treatment failure due to antimicrobial resistance in Enterobacteriaceae. The main objective was to assess the relative contribution (RC) of different types of meat to the exposure of consumers to ESBL/AmpC and their potential imp...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE AmpC β lactamases are one of the important causes of drug resistance in gram negative bacteria. Failure to detect these enzymes in the laboratory has contributed to therapeutic failures but there are till date no standard guideline available. This study was therefore undertaken to evaluate three phenotypic laboratory tests and the inhibitors used in two of the tests to ...

Plasmid-mediated AmpC-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae have been associated with poor clinical outcomes, but they are not readily identified in hospital microbiology laboratories. We tested 753 gram-negative bloodstream isolates for AmpC by using the EDTA disk test and the modified Hodge test (n = 172) and the modified Hodge test alone (n = 581). The 30-day mortality for the...

Detection of AmpC-mediated resistance in Gram negative organisms poses a problem due to misleading results in phenotypic tests. There are no recommended guidelines for detection of this resistance mechanism and there is a need to address this issue as much as the detection of extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBLs) since both may co-exist and mask each other. Several methods have been used to...

background : gram-negative bacteria are the most cause of nosocomial infection especially in burned patients. carbapenem resistant strains can limit seriously the choice of antibiotic therapy. ampc can make resistance to carbapenem and detection of that can be useful for identification of carbapenem resistant. the aim of this study was identification of ampc in most prevalent cause of nosocomia...

PURPOSE Salmonella spp. are important foodborne pathogens exhibiting increasing resistance to antimicrobial drugs. Resistance to broad-spectrum β-lactams, mediated by extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and AmpC β-lactamase enzymes is fast spreading and has had negative impacts on the clinical outcomes, particularly on third-generation cephalosporins. This study investigated the carriage of Am...
