Background and purpose: Keratocystic odontogenic tumor tends to recur and behave more aggressively than follicular cysts and dental follicles. Eosinophils are multifunctional leukocytes, but their role in oral lesions is controversial. Current study aimed at assessing the density of eosinophils in aggressive odontogenic lesions. Materials and methods: In this descriptive-analytical cross-secti...

Carnoy’s solution was first used as a medicament in surgery by Cutler and Zollinger in 1933. The reformulated carnoy’s solution without chloroform is accepted because exposure to chloroform has been associated with cancer and reproductive toxicity. It is assumed that carnoy’s solution eradicates epithelial rests from the cyst wall and reduces the rate of recurrence. In the world health organiza...

Sir, Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is known for its pathognomonic features, i.e., aggressiveness and high rates of recurrence, which has been of interest and debate since the first description of this entity by Philipsen in 1956.[1] Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) working group on odontogenic tumors recommended the term “Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumors” (KCOT) for these lesions to ...

Since the term odontogenic keratocyst first appeared in the literature, controversy has surrounded its terminology and surgical management. Recent articles would suggest that surgical opinion is still divided between aggressive radical resection and a more conservative approach. We present an interesting case of a large keratocystic odontogenic tumour shown to have eroded through bony cortices ...
