Trypanosoma brucei is a unicellular parasite that causes sleeping sickness in humans. Most of its transcription is constitutive and driven by RNA polymerase II. RNA polymerase I (Pol I) transcribes not only ribosomal RNA genes, but also protein-encoding genes, including variant surface glycoproteins (VSGs) and procyclins. In T. brucei, histone H1 (H1) is required for VSG silencing and chromatin...

The present paper is a note on the relative tensor degree of finite groups. This notion generalizes the tensor degree, introduced recently in literature, and allows us to adapt the concept of relative commutativity degree through the notion of nonabelian tensor square. We show two inequalities, which correlate the relative tensor degree with the relative commutativity degree of finite groups. 1...

Glycation of proteins leads to the formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) of diverse molecular structure and biological function. Serum albumin derivatives modified to minimal and high extents by methylglyoxal and glucose in vitro have been used in many studies as model AGE proteins. The early and advanced glycation adduct contents of these proteins were investigated using the 6-ami...

B7 homolog 1 (B7-H1)-expressing myeloma cells not only inhibit myeloma-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL), but also confer a proliferative advantage: resistance to antimyeloma chemotherapy. However, it remains unknown whether B7-H1 expressed on myeloma cells induces cellular responses associated with aggressive myeloma behaviors. To address this question, we analyzed the proliferation and d...

In this paper we determine when the join of two graphs is locally homogeneous. It is shown that the Cartesian product of a locally H1 graph and a locally H2 graph is locally (H1∪ H2). All graphs H of order at most 4 for which there are no locally H graphs are determined.

If a graph has no induced subgraph isomorphic to any graph in a finite family {H1, . . . ,Hp}, it is said to be (H1, . . . ,Hp)-free. The class of H-free graphs has bounded clique-width if and only if H is an induced subgraph of the 4-vertex path P4. We study the (un)boundedness of the clique-width of graph classes defined by two forbidden induced subgraphs H1 and H2. Prior to our study it was ...

We investigated the specific H1 receptor antagonist, clemastine, in 15 children with asthma. In the respiratory unit, clemastine was an effective bronchodilator but in a clinical trial we could not show any significant benefit compared with placebo.
