The radio source Sgr A at the center of our Galaxy is believed to be a 2.6× 10M⊙ black hole which accretes gas from the winds of nearby stars. We show that limits on the X-ray and infrared emission from the Galactic Center provide an upper limit of ∼ 8 × 10M⊙ yr −1 on the mass accretion rate in Sgr A. The advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) model favors a rate <∼ 10 M⊙ yr . In comparison,...

A previously proposed unified field theory of electro-strong interactions requires two scales of length within hadrons, ∼ 10m and ∼ 10m respectively, and the onset of new phenomena at the shorter scale. Studies at the HERA electron-proton collider at the shorter scale have revealed a possible excess of high-transverse momentum events, as expected, with Q ≥ 30, 000 (Gev/c). The collider is curre...

In 2000 CANGAROO-II 7m telescope has been improved to a 10m telescope, and the CANGAROO-III project has been begun. The CANGAROO-III is a project to study celestial gamma rays above 0.1 TeV with an array of four 10m Imaging Air Cerenkov T elescopes (IACTs) in the southern hemisphere. Here we report on the status of CANGAROO-III project including the observations using the rst telescope

Gravitational microlensing has been employed to identify massive halo objects by their amplilification of distant sources; MACHO searches have studied event times 2h∼ t0 < ∼ 2y corresponding masses in the range 10M⊙ < ∼ M < ∼ 100M⊙. We suggest that larger masses up to 10M⊙ are also of considerable interest. It has not been excluded that there is a significant number of halo black holes with suc...

Static stretching has often been found to decrease performance in power and speed activities, but dynamic warm-ups usually increase performance. We examined the effects of a mini-band warm-up, a medicine ball warm-up, and static stretching on 10m and 20m sprint times, as well as overhead medicine ball throw performance. Twenty-four Division I female soccer players completed the three warm-ups a...

The effect of Methyl Jasmonate (MJ, jasmonic acid methyl ether) at 10-10M concentrations on triticale kernels germination, seedling growth, changes in soluble carbohydrates content and composition, and activity of α-amylase was studied. MJ inhibited the germination of triticale kernels, possibly due to decreasing activity of αamylase, leading to the depletion of soluble carbohydrates in both em...

Methods Peripheral blood eosinophils were incubated for 4 days with decreasing dilutions of MP29-02* (from 1:10 to 1:10 times), equivalent dilutions of FP (7.3x10M to 10M) or AZ (2.4x10M to 10M) prior to the addition of Epithelial Cell culture Media (ECM) from nasal mucosa (NM). Eosinophil survival was assessed by Trypan blue dye exclusion. Results are expressed as percentage (mean ± SEM) of eo...

in this research, the high-energy planetary mill was employed to produce nanocrystalline ti-50al(γ)(at%) powders. initial powders were mechanically alloyed in 99.9999% and 90% purities of argon and also air atmosphere with alloying times up to 50h. the effect of impurity of argon atmosphere on the microstructure and the rate of phase transformation of ti-50al were investigated during mechanical...

a specific inhibitor, the hypothesis that acetylcholine-induced coronary vasodilation is due to EDRF release was tested. Methods and Results. We studied the response of normal coronary arteries to acetylcholine (an endothelium-dependent vasodilator) and isosorbide dinitrate (an endothelium-independent vasodilator) in seven patients. The specificity of any vasodilator response was assessed by th...

Large and well defined variations exist between the distribution of mass and the light of stars on extragalactic scales. Mass concentrations in the range 10 − 10M⊙ manifest the most light per unit mass. Group halos in this range are typically the hosts of spiral and irregular galaxies with ongoing star formation. On average M/LB ∼ 90M⊙/L⊙ in these groups . More massive halos have less light per...
