The goal of this article is to design robust and simple first order explicit solvers for one-dimensional nonconservative hyperbolic systems. These solvers are intended to be used as the basis for higher order methods for one or multidimensional problems. The starting point for the development of these solvers is the general definition of a Roe linearization introduced by Toumi in 1992 based on ...

In domestic ruminants, the stratification of forestomach contents - the results of flotation and sedimentation processes - is an important prerequisite for the selective particle retention in this organ. A series of anatomical and physiological measurements suggests that the degree of this stratification varies between browsing and grazing wild ruminants. We investigated the forestomach content...

Roe deer is a seasonal breeder characterised by a short rutting season in summer. Mature males show synchronised cycles of testicular involution and recrudescence. Therefore, this species is a valuable model to study seasonal regulation of spermatogenesis in ruminants. It is hypothesised that a time-dependent production of testicular growth factors is required to regulate seasonal changes in te...

BACKGROUND Physiology of the exocrine pancreas has been well studied in domestic and in laboratory animals as well as in humans. However, it remains quite unknown in wildlife mammals. Roe deer and cattle (including calf) belong to different families but have a common ancestor. This work aimed to evaluate in the Roe deer, the adaptation to diet of the exocrine pancreatic functions and regulation...

Salted Kutum roe was prepared by soaking in brine to a traditional procedure. Proximate composition (moisture, protein, lipid, pH, ash and salt content), total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), fatty acid profiles and microbiological characteristics of raw and salted roe of Caspian white fish (Rutilus frisii kutum) were determined. The results indicated that protein and moisture contents were si...

There are good markets for mature pollock roe; however, immature pollock roe is underutilized. The physical and nutritional properties of immature pollock roe (IPR) have not been reported, which limits its potential use as a food ingredient. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physical and nutritional properties of immature pollock roe and soluble and insoluble protein powders made ...

This study examines the effects of the Roots of Empathy (ROE) program on children’s social-emotional competence. ROE is a theoretically derived universal preventive program that focuses on decreasing children’s aggression and facilitating the development of their socialemotional understanding and prosocial behaviors. The program has as its cornerstone monthly visits by an infant and his/her par...

People's memory for new information can be enhanced by cuing them to forget older information, as is shown in list-method directed forgetting (LMDF). In this task, people are cued to forget a previously studied list of items (list 1) and to learn a new list of items (list 2) instead. Such cuing typically enhances memory for the list 2 items and reduces memory for the list 1 items, which reflect...

We describe cervids as potential reservoir hosts of Babesia EU1 and B. divergens. Both babesial parasites were found in roe deer. Sequence analysis of 18S rRNA showed 99.7% identity of roe deer Babesia EU1 with the human EU1 strain. B. divergens detected in cervids was 99.6% identical to bovine B. divergens.

Higson-Roe compacti cations rst arose in connection with C -algebra approaches to index theory on noncompact manifolds. Vanishing and/or equivariant splitting results for the cohomology of these compacti cations imply the integral Novikov Conjecture for fundamental groups of nite aspherical CW complexes. We survey known results on these compacti cations and prove some new results { most notably...
