Pressure techniques were used to remove 83 blades from a preformed obsidian core weighing 820 grams, yielding 17.32 meters of acute cutting edge. The blades represented 91 percent of the original weight (2.1 centimeters of acute cutting edge per gram of original material), thus demonstrating the efficiency of the pressure-blade techniques for the production of acute cutting edges.
CONTEXT The role of diet composition in response to overeating and energy dissipation in humans is unclear. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of overconsumption of low, normal, and high protein diets on weight gain, energy expenditure, and body composition. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS A single-blind, randomized controlled trial of 25 US healthy, weight-stable male and female volunteer...

OBJECTIVE To determine the validity of adult body weights and heights recorded in electronic medical records (EMRs) in the course of routine medical care. BACKGROUND EMRs allow the potential use of data collected in the course of routine medical care for a variety of research applications in many fields including epidemiology and comparative effectiveness studies. However, researchers familia...
BACKGROUND The currently available pharmacokinetic models for fentanyl were derived from normal weight patients and were not scaled to body weight. Their application to obese patients may cause overprediction of the plasma concentration of fentanyl. This study examined the influence of body weight on the predictive accuracy of two models (Anesthesiology 1990; 73:1091-102 and J Pharmacol Exp The...
This phase II study evaluated the efficacy and safety of AMG 102 (rilotumumab), a fully human monoclonal antibody against hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor (HGF/SF), in patients with recurrent glioblastoma (GBM). Patients with histologically confirmed, measurable recurrent GBM or gliosarcoma (World Health Organization grade 4) and ≤3 relapses or prior systemic therapies received AMG 102 (...
A 25 day old male neonate presented to our institution with excessive sweating during feeds since few days after birth. On examination the neonate appeared weak with decreased feeding (Weight 2.8 kg). He was tachypneic with feeble pulses. There was no hepatomegaly. Cardiovascular examination revealed cardiomegaly, vulvar ejection click and an ejection systolic murmur of aortic stenosis. Left ve...
