The clinical, radiographic, and neuropathologic features of the case of a 41-year-old man with Wegener granulomatosis presenting with neurologic symptoms are correlated. CT and MR scans of the head demonstrated extensive meningeal thickening and enhancement. The importance of considering this diagnosis, confirmed by antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies, is emphasized.
We report a case of Wegener's granulomatosis clinically mistaken for carcinoma in a 21-year-old girl presenting with an ulcerated mass of the nasopharynx associated with enlarged laterocervical nodes. The lesion was clinically suspected as malignant on the basis of clinical and radiological findings (namely, computed tomography scan and positron emission tomography). However, multiple biopsies ...
Introduction: Wegener Granulomatosis is a rare multisystemic disease with an unknown cause, characterized by necrotic granulomatous lesions in respiratory tract, systemic vasculitis in small arteries and veins and necrotizing glomerulonephritis. Wegener can affect any organ including kidneys, eyes or other organs but classically affects upper and lower respiratory tract. One of the rare but imp...
A 22-year-old man with a history of cocaine abuse from 2003 to 2005 developed recurrent bleeding of the nasal septum and a progressive cough and dyspnoea. He was admitted to the intensive care unit because of fulminant pneumonia, impaired renal function and progressive general deterioration. While hospitalized, he developed cutaneous vasculitis, thrombosis of the right subclavian and right jugu...
Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)–associated vasculitis encompasses 3 conditions: eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA; formerly named Churg-Strauss syndrome), granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA; formerly named Wegener granulomatosis), and microscopic polyangiitis.1 Diagnosing ANCA-associated small-vessel vasculitis is challenging for clinicians because of its infrequ...
Wegener granulomatosis (WG), the most common of the pulmonary granulomatous vasculitides, typically involves the upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract (bronchi and lung), and kidney, with varying degrees of disseminated vasculitis. THE TERM GRANULOMATOSIS WITH POLYANGIITIS (WEGENER) WAS RECENTLY PROPOSED TO REPLACE THE OLDER TERM, WG. THE TERM GRANULOMATOSIS WITH POLYANGIITIS CAN BE ...
