Photochemistry has the potential to significantly impact multiple aspects of chemical synthesis, in part because photoinduced reactions can be used to construct molecular architectures that would otherwise be difficult to produce. Nevertheless, organic chemists have been slow to embrace photochemical synthesis because of technical complications associated with the use of ultraviolet light. Our ...

Black Nb(4+) self-doped K4Nb6O17 microspheres were prepared for the first time through a facile UV light photoreduction method. By the introduction of Nb(4+), the defective K4Nb6O17 can harvest the full spectrum of visible light as well as near-infrared light. The black K4Nb6O17 microspheres showed improved visible-light-driven photocatalytic H2 production activity. Importantly, the present syn...

1. The amount of visible or long ultraviolet light (UV) required to photoreactivate Colpidium colpoda injured with known dosages of short UV (2654 A) was determined. 2. The effect of the short UV was tested by the delay in division of exposed animals compared to controls. Photoreactivation was tested by the effect of postillumination on the delay of division of treated colpidia compared to cont...

Fluorescent guest molecules doped in polymers have been used to convert ultraviolet light into visible light for applications ranging from optical fibres to filters for the cultivation of plants. The wavelength conversion process involves the absorption of light at short wavelengths followed by fluorescence emission at a longer wavelength. However, a precise understanding of the light conversio...

Solid-state Raman lasers are known as important sources at normally difficult to access wavelengths, and our recent studies have shown that they also form the basis of a class of wavelength selectable lasers. This paper summarizes our recent studies in wavelength selectable Raman lasers in the visible (532-650 nm) and ultraviolet (266-321 nm).

In this research project, the nitrito nitro isomerization of [Co (NH3)5No2]F2 complex has been studied. Isomerization of this complex in the solid state follows a first order kinetics. The rate of isomerization at different temperatures was determined using a Fourier Transform Lnfrared Spectrophotometer. ? and ? are calculated at 298 K. The infrared, visible and ultraviolet spectra of th...

We report on extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) spectroscopic observations of the B bright giant ǫ Canis Majoris made during the ORFEUS-SPAS II mission. We assess the performance of the instrument in the EUV and find that the effective area is roughly 3 times that of the Extreme-Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) long-wavelength spectrometer and that the spectral resolution is λ/∆λ ≈ 1250. We identify most of ...

Graphene oxide (GO) thin films were simply deposited on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate via a low-voltage electrodeposition. The GO and GO thin films were characterized by Zeta Potential, X-ray diffraction, Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrosc...

The new high effiency extreme ultraviolet overview spectrometer (HEXOS) system for the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X is now mounted for testing and adjustment at the tokamak experiment for technology oriented research (TEXTOR). One part of the testing phase was the intensity calibration of the two double spectrometers which in total cover a spectral range from 2.5 to 160.0 nm with overlap. This w...
