Various nanoscale elements are currently being explored for bio-applications, such as in bio-images, bio-detection, and bio-sensors. Among them, nanodiamonds possess remarkable features such as low bio-cytotoxicity, good optical property in fluorescent and Raman spectra, and good photostability for bio-applications. In this work, we devise techniques to position functionalized nanodiamonds on s...
Stable and predictable functionalization of nanodiamond with carboxyl is an important first step in loading these materials with therapeutic agents, and the conjugation with proteins, cytochrome, antigen, and DNA. By creating a map of the adsorption strength of COOH, OH, O and H with atomic level resolution across the entire surface of an experimentally realistic nanodiamond, we have shown how ...
One of the applications of nanomaterials is as reinforcements in composites, wherein small additions of nanomaterials lead to large enhancements in mechanical properties. There have been extensive studies in the literature on composites where a polymer matrix is reinforced by a single nanomaterial such as carbon nanotubes. In this article, we examine the significant synergistic effects observed...
Well-aligned rectangular-shaped nanodiamond fibers (NDFs) with a length-to-width ratio of over 1000 were formed on a large-scale via a self-assembly process by drying acid-treated nanodiamonds of a uniform size ( 4 nm) from an aqueous solution. Nanodiamond thin films (NDTFs), instead of NDFs, have also been prepared by drying the aqueous ND dispersion at a sufficiently low temperature (< 70 C))...
Nanodiamond particles were produced, purified, and described in the current work. The surface of nanodiamond was then oxidised to create a uniform coating COOH groups. Finally, functionalized placed on SiO2 substrate their anti-polishing properties studied. FT-TR, TGA, TEM, SEM used characterise products this study.
The study of scattering and extinction properties of possible nanodiamond grains in the ISM are reported. Calculations using Discrete Dipole Approximation (DDA) for varying ellipsoidal shapes and sizes from 2.5 to 10 nm are considered. Nanodiamonds show negligible extinction from IR to near-UV and very sharp far-UV rise. Comparison with observations rule out possibility of independent nanodiamo...
Ultra-small gold nanoparticles (0.8–1 nm) are successfully deposited on titania-modified SBA-15 via a deposition–precipitation method. A comparison of experimental X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns with theoretical ones shows that gold exists as Au and Au in the as-synthesized and reduced catalyst, respectively. The XRD analyses also suggest that Au nanoparticles are more developed along the Æ11...
In this work, the results of a complex investigation structure and properties nanodiamond soot (NDS) detonation synthesis are presented. Size distribution NDS particles, dispersed in different liquid media, was investigated using dynamic light scattering laser diffraction analysis methods. The investigation, as well zeta-potential measurements, allowed us to characterize agglomeration process p...
Here we demonstrate the in situ formation of ultra-small gold nanoparticles (<2 nm) finely dispersed on a binary solid carrier, i.e. a mesoporous SiO2 coated graphene oxide (GO) nanosheet. The as-synthesized Au-SiO2-GO composite has shown high catalytic activity and reusability for chemical reactions under mild conditions.
Fluorescent nanodiamonds are attracting major attention in the field of bio-sensing and bio-labeling. In this work we demonstrate a robust approach to achieve an encapsulation of individual nanodiamonds with phenol-ionic complexes that enhance the photoluminescence from single nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers. We show that single NV centres in the coated nanodiamonds also exhibit shorter lifetimes...
