Background: Tympanoplasty is a widely performed surgery for the repair of tympanic membrane perforation. Aim study: to compare auditory and anatomical outcomes between two different techniques in tympanoplasty: first with temporalis facia graft + new “cubism” other alone. Patients methods: A prospective, randomized study was conducted Otorhinolaryngology Head Neck Surgery Department, Al-Azhar U...

INTRODUCTION Same-day closure of bilateral tympanic membrane perforations is a quick and more comfortable procedure for the patients. However, conventional bilateral same-day tympanoplasty or myringoplasty has been rarely performed because of the theoretical risk of postoperative complications. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the advantages and outcomes of bilateral simultaneous endoscopic cartilage ty...

The current study compares outcomes of modified cartilage shield tympanoplasty (CST) with temporalis fascia tympanoplasty in type I procedures in Indian patients. Graft uptake rates are better with the CST technique and hearing results are almost equivalent with both techniques except at 8000 Hz where improvement in hearing was found better with the use of temporalis fascia alone. The CST techn...

Here we report a three-step growth method for high-quality mono-layer, bi-layer and tri-layer graphene with coverage ~90% at atmospheric pressure. The growth temperature and gas flow rate have been found to be the key factors. This method would be of great importance for the large scale production of graphene with defined thickness.

Tympanic membrane is the partition between external ear and middle layer which a vital component of human ear. Neglected or maltreated earache, discharge trauma lead to perforation tympanic membrane. Tympanoplasty surgical procedure performed repair perforated membrane, with/without reconstruction ossicles, with aim preventing reinfection restoring hearing ability. Type 1 tympanoplasty simple c...

ere, we review the article entitled ‘‘Impact of cartilage raft size on success of tympanoplasty’’ by Abdelhameed t al.1 The authors evaluated the effects of different peroration sizes on the outcomes of Type 1 tympanoplasty in his study. The work described is interesting. However, the nclusion criteria and the results are not very clear. The uthors do not state whether patients with myringoscle...

Background Maintaining a supersaturated drug solution after the dissolution of the solid dispersions of water insoluble drugs continues to be a great challenge and is important to the oral bioavailability enhancement of hardly soluble drugs. Methods Nimodipine solid dispersions were prepared by hot-melt extrusion and a special tri-block polymer was employed as a co-carrier. The solid dispersi...

This study presents a novel approach for realizing miniaturized multi layer folded tri band micro-strip band pass filter for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and Worldwide interoperatability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) applications. The proposed filter consists of a pair of folded hairpin stepped impedance resonators and pair of open loop resonators to achieve tri-band performance. The size ...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the therapeutic effects in terms of disease clearance and hearing improvement of canal wall up mastoidectomy in combination with Type I tympanoplasty in otitis media. METHODS A total of 78 patients (81 ears) with otitis media were treated by canal wall up mastoidectomy in combination with Type I tympanoplasty. The postoperative tympanic membrane morphology, average of pu...

We investigated the feasibility of using laser tissue welding techniques to perform transcanal underlay tympanoplasty. We used 10 temporal bones obtained from human cadavers. After creating a subtotal tympanic membrane perforation, we introduced harvested periosteum through the perforation and used laser tissue welding to secure the periosteum graft in place in an underlay fashion. The procedur...
