Aspergillus terreus gave the overall best results in alpechin at approximately 80% concentration, degrading organic material by 53%, expressed as COD, and 67%, expressed as BOD. Degradation of the total phenol content, which included the great majority of phenolic compounds, reached 69%.

conclusions the findings of the current study indicate that at high concentrations of salt, the growth of bacteria reduces so that it stops at a concentration of 50 mg l-1 (5%). thus, the bacterium is halotolerant or halophilic. with an increase in phenol concentration, the growth rate increased. phenol toxicity appears at a concentration of 600 mg l-1. results the phenol concentration of 600 m...

A biofilm of Arthrobacter viscosus supported on granular activated carbon was used to remove chromium and organic compounds (chlorophenol, phenol and o-cresol) from aqueous solutions. The compounds were studied as single solutes and in different combinations between them and Cr(VI). Optimum Cr(VI) adsorption was observed at a phenol concentration of 100 mg/l and at an initial concentration of t...

BACKGROUND Albizia adianthifolia is used traditionally in Cameroon to treat several ailments, including infectious and associated diseases. This work was therefore designed to investigate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of ethyl acetate extract, fractions and compounds isolated from the stem bark of this plant. METHODS The plant extract was prepared by maceration in ethyl acetate...

Twenty-four cross bred steers (BW 452.5 +/- 15.5 kg) were used to evaluate nutrient excretion and odorous compounds in urine and feces of feedlot steers fed diets containing corn wet distillers grains with solubles (WDGS). Cattle were weighed, blocked by BW, and assigned randomly to 1 of 4 dry-rolled corn-based diets containing 0, 20, 40, or 60% WDGS (DM basis). A 96-h total fecal and urine col...

Five phenolic compounds in water and sediment of Yinma River Basin were investigated. The average concentration of phenol was the highest in water samples as well as in sediment samples during the wet season, 101.68 ng/L and 127.76 ng/g, respectively. 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) and pentachlorophenol (PCP) was not detected in some sampling sites. Shitou Koumen Reservoir and the neighborin...

Biological degradation of phenolic compounds by a mixed bacterial culture was investigated. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis were the two strains used in the study. pH and the temperature for the growth of bacteria was found to be 70.2 and 372C, respectively. The mixed microbial culture was able to degrade 250 mgl of phenol and wattle completely within 36 and 48 hours, respectivel...

The aim of this work was to evaluate the phytochemical components, minerals, the antioxidant activity and total phenol contents of the essential oil from aerial parts of six major medicinal plants in Rayen, Iran. The plants included Ranunculus arvensis, Teucrium polium, Dracocephalum polychaetum, Kelussia odoratissima, Artemisia sieberi and Thymus kotschyanus. Total phenol content ranged from 0...

Olive oil extraction produces a great volume of residue. These olive mill wastes are known as alpechin. This wastewater is a powerful pollutant, resistant to degradation and presents a severe environmental problem related to its high organic content made up largely of simple phenolic compounds, that have been described as being both antimicrobial and phytotoxic. This paper reviews briefly the a...
