The removal of four parabens, methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, and benzyl-paraben, by β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) polymer from aqueous solution was studied. Different β-CD polymers were prepared by using two cross-linkers, i.e., hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI) and toluene-2,6-diisocyanate (TDI), with various molar ratios of cross-linker. β-CD-HMDI polymer with molar ratio of 1:7 and β-CD-TDI polymer with ...

OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to determine the levels of 2,4-toluenediamine, 2,6-toluenediamine, 1,5-naphthtalenediamine and 4,4'-methylenediphenyldianiline in hydrolyzed urine and plasma for occupationally unexposed workers and to calculate upper reference limits (URLs). These analytes are biomarkers of exposure to 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 2,6-toluene diisocyanate (2,4-TDI a...

INTRODUCTION AND AIM The role of B-lymphocytes in chemical-induced asthma is largely unknown. Recent work demonstrated that transferring B lymphocytes from toluene diisocyanate (TDI)-sensitized mice into naïve mice, B cell KO mice and SCID mice, triggered an asthma-like response in these mice after a subsequent TDI-challenge. We applied two-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE) t...

Many inhalation exposure studies have been performed with toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in different animal species. Many were targeted at respiratory irritation and/or sensitisation. As there is still no broadly accepted guideline for the performance of respiratory sensitisation tests, protocols used and endpoints investigated are numerous. In this review we collected data from those respiratory ...

This paper describes our experience with the respiratory effects of TDI. Five respiratory reactions attributable to TDI are described with supporting evidence. The reactions are sensitization, irritation from overexposure, acute loss of ventilatory capacity, accelerated loss of pulmonary function and induction of a general asthmatic state. Evidence is presented that suggests a safe exposure level.

We studied the effect of various amino acid mixtures on nasal allergy induced by the intranasal application of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in mice. In Experiment 1 (Exp. 1), mice were fed a 25% casein, soy protein isolate (SPI), egg white protein (EW) or gluten diet. In Experiment 2 (Exp. 2), mice were fed a 25% amino acid mixture diets patterned after casein (AA-casein), SPI (AA-SPI), EW protei...

The standard sampling methods for toluene diisocyanate (TDI) only collect total TDI without separating the aerosol and gas phases. There are few other samplers, such as the dual filter, triple filter and annular denuder systems (ADS), which are able to sample the aerosol and gas phases simultaneously. This field study was conducted at two workplaces to access the total 2,4-TDI and the gaseous a...

The aim of this study was to investigate the modulation of an asthmatic response by titanium dioxide (TiO₂) or gold (Au) nanoparticles (NPs) in a murine model of diisocyanate-induced asthma. On days 1 and 8, BALB/c mice received 0.3% toluene diisocyanate (TDI) or the vehicle acetone-olive oil (AOO) on the dorsum of both ears (20 μL). On day 14, the mice were oropharyngeally dosed with 40 μL of ...

Iread with interest the Case Report on intestinal obstruction due to acute toluene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) exposure recently published in The IJOEM. Although considering occupational and environmental etiologies in the clinical assessment of the patient is admirable, some important clues of occupational history have not yet been clarified. Characteristics of an exposure are very important: Was t...
